You could go into the children's library in a big library, and look at the non-fiction, or you could ask any Primary school student.
Alternatively, You could actually go to one of those OPEN AIR MUSEUMs - most have something about the Victorians!
I can tell you that:
~ Before around 1871, it was not compulsory to go to school.
