Can anyone help me. I would like to certificates pre 1837. Did they exist. If so, is it possible to get copies?
Birth, death and marriage certificates started in England and Wales in July 1837, before that there are baptism, marriage and burial records which are part of the church parish records and are mainly held by local record offices or occasionally by the church. The Familysearch website or the microfiche copies (at most record offices or large libraries) can point the way but need to be checked against the originals.
These records have a lot less information that the July 1837 certificates.
Thanks for that. I was pretty sure that was the case but wondered if anyone knew differently
