Just starting a new line on my family tree. My grandfather who was estranged from my Nan about the time of my mums birth, so no real family feeling there but need to complete my tree and apart for my grandmother on my paternal side who was born in Borneo as her father was commissioned there, this is the only line I have yet to really get a start on. His name was George Edward Gorringe and he was 26 when he married my Nan on boxing day 1921. His father was also George Edward. I can only trace two George Edward. 1) married 1894 and 2) born in 1896 in Sunderland. Assuming father and son. I have also traced his siblings (My mum gave me their names before her demise) They must have moved to Grimsby between 1897 and 1900 as his siblings indicate a change in venue for their births. None of them are on the 1901 census and I can only assume they have been mistranscribed. Someone found some different family memebrs for me as they had been transcribed as and R for the first part of their surname instead of an A. Can anyone advise where I can use a wildcard for searching.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jo

    Think I've found his father:

George Ed Gorringe abt 1871 Sunderland, Durham, England Head Great Grimsby Lincolnshire
James R Gorringe abt 1884 Sunderland, Durham, England Brother Great Grimsby Lincolnshire

    Source information: RG13/3088
    Registration district: Grimsby
    Sub-registration district: Great Grimsby
    ED, institution, or vessel: 3
    Folio: 59
    Page: 31
    Household schedule number: 235

George is a woodworking machinist and James a labourer in a sawmill. It would help to have the names of his mother and siblings to try to trace them. Do you know his mother's maiden name and place of birth? They may be visiting the grandparents. Any chance they could be over the border in Scotland?

I saw that entry in the 1901 census and wondered why he wasn't with his wife and kids. The eldest was George b 1896 in Sunderland then Margaret Dec 1897 in Sunderland. Thomas March 1900 in Grimsby,Robert Sept 1902 Grimsby and finally Rhoada June 1907 Grimsby.I have found them all in free bmd/Ancestry. But I cannor find the eldest 3 children 1896,1897,1900 in the 1901 census or his wife. (Still waiting on the birth certificate to confrim her name)Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jo
