That site called 'Ancestry'

    I subscribed to the 'Ancestry' site for a Quarter and instead of being informed that my subscription was up they've just taken money straight out of my account without informing me !! i know this topic has been brought up before.
    I would have re-subscribed anyway but i'm just annoyed that they've definitely not warned me of the expiration and have just taken the money, the cheek of it !!
    Watch out fellow Ancestors !!

    It does seem a bit odd as I have subscribed to the same site for the past three years and every year before the renewal date I have recieved an e-mail asking me if I wanted to renew or cancell.

    The fact that you subscribed for quarter should make no difference and I feel hard done by and would go down the complaint road.

    However under their terms and conditions they state that if you wish to concell your subscription you must contact them at least two days before renewal date and for that purpose they give an 0800 and an e-mail address.

    There is also a contact address which might help you to present your complaint directly.

    Don't forget to read the small print. If you didn't, then I don't think that you can critize Ancestry, especially if you are happy to have your subscription extended.
    As the process to make payment involves giving credit card details, I recall on my recent subscription to a 30 day trial that there were clear pop up messages about how and when to cancel the subscription. (The onus being on the individual to make the decision to continue subscription) As the end date of that trial approached, I had to go away for 10 days. I simply phoned them up, in the States, explained my forthcoming absence, and was offered an extension on the original 30 day trial by another period of 30 days.
    In my experience, they are extremely helpful people, running a very profitable worldwide business.

    I subscribe to the same site on a quarterly basis. I never receive reminders, so my subscription just lapses (in the middle of the day).

    There is an option when subscribing to have an automatic renewal, a tick box, but still no reminders, so the money just comes out, perhaps that's what you did.

    I wanted to subscribe to Ancestry but they will not accept my credit card as it is a debit card and not a credit card. I have no wish to use a credit card. Any way round this do you think?

    I SUSCRIBED TO ANCESTRY WITH MY DEBIT CARD WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.
