Due to rapidly approaching Holiday Season coincidental to with the Board closure, I'd like to send my greetings to fellow posters.
And a few of you I can't pass on sending personalized greeting cards to, including:
The most dependable poster card to Thomas
The most out-of-the-box thinking poster card to Vizzer
The best improved poster card to Allan
The no-nonsense poster card to Baz and GrumpyFred
Thank you very much for the greetings suvorovetz.
My best wishes to you too and take care that the stalkers from the WaC board don´t follow you wherever you go .
Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year .
Best Regards
Thomas

Will do. Hopefully, wherever I go, the mods will apply rules of engagement equitably, if you know what I mean.
Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year .
Best Regards

Same to you, buddy!
...I had a nagging feeling that I forget something. Sorry, Paul, but you're supposed to receive the gentlemanly conduct card from me
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too, Suvorovetz.
I have esteem for your tenacity...as for this of your friends the "statists"...
It reminds me of the "epic" Jesus debate between Nordmann and Tim of Aclea...of course the "statists" have their Marx and Tim has his Bible...I don't know what you have...but it has to be something consistent to hold it in such a long echange of words...
Cheers, Paul.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too, Suvorovetz

Strategic supply of eggnog. Problem is, I might run out before the holidays are over - it's like a war of attrition, you know.

The most important thing ,Suvorovetz, never go to those 'spiders from Russia' ! Happy New Year ! Ziggy StarDust/OUNUPA/Makhno.
Ah, I thought that was you over on Englistory Jak. There is only one person who would defend Elvis with such passion!
Elvis is True and Real, Digger ! Makhno.

ID, I doubt there was anything to 'defend', as no-one was even remotely slagging Elvis off?
That's the thing with Englistory, people there are respectful and have board etiquette towards others.
Regards.
Oh I agree Hereword, no-one was slagging Elvis off but Jak seemed to think they were by his reaction.
You've changed your name!
Thomas,
have a look to Alan Patten in this thread. If you want to exchange messages as I said just to Minette, you can join Historum wherr you can send private messages to each other. Perhaps also on Englishstory? Also at my French forum Passion Histoire. I can direct you then to whoever you want...
Kind regards and with esteem,
Paul.

I have indeed! It reflects the inevitable doom of this board/site's demise? Lol. For posterity now!
Jak/Makhno was over-sensitive about Elvis inexplicably as nobody was criticising the man, merely expressing a preference for someone he disliked? But there are ways to do so with respect and decorum?

Thanks for your post alanpatten, but I´m sorry to tell you that my priority is to keep me email address safe and except from some internet business, I can´t make further exceptions.
If there is something you´d like to tell me, I´d be pleased to answer you on these boards, as long as they are open.
Anyway, I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Regards,
Thomas
Hi Paul,
as I´ve told alan in me privious message, I keep my email address safe. This was also a reason for why I didn´t stay long on the other boards, set up in 2005, and so I won´t join the Historum or Englistory either for the same reasons.
So I´m sorry to tell you that our contacts will end with the final closure of these boards on Thursday. I haven´t decided where to go after that time. One is for sure, it won´t be a messageboard where people can exchange private emails with each other. Not for personal reasons, but for data protection reasons. You never know who´s reading private informations exposed on the internet. That´s not my cup of tea.
Take care of yourself my friend and with hindsight I can plainly tell you that most of our conversations on these boards have been to my pleasure and there isn´t anything wrong to recall.
I hope that you understand my point and I wish you well.
A very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your Family.
There is one last question I´d like to ask you, which is how do you say "Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes Neues Jahr" in Dutch?
Kind Regards,
Thomas

Thomas
We're all concerned about security these days, so why don't you just set up an email address solely for History forum use?
Even though forums are safe (you can set your privacy settings on them), if the worst happened, it isn't your main personal or business emails that get spam?
Give it a whirl and enjoy history after 鶹Լ?
It's been fun, people.
Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!
Thomas,
thank you very much for the reply...and I understand....
'n Zalig (selig) Kerstfeest en 'n Gelukkig Nieuwjaar voor jou (dich) or voor U (Ihnen) en je (Uw) familie.
Many say also nowadays the same way as in English "Vrolijk (fröhlich) Kerstfeest en Gelukkig Nieuwjaar", but we, oldies stick still in our Christian background.
Kind regards and with esteem for all your exchanges with me.
Paul.
no-one was slagging Elvis off but Jak seemed to think they were by his reaction.
Shock! Horror!
Somebody has been taking my name in vain. I haven't said anything nasty about Elvis (recently).
When I first heard "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1956(?) I thought it was a joke. As did Jack Payne or Jack Jackson or whoever was introducing the records on the 鶹Լ that day. He said something like: "Dunno what you'll think of this latest nonsense-song from the States" and then played the record. I didn't like it - or any later thing by Elvis - and still feel the same, but I can't be bothered saying so any more.
Give me Jelly-Roll Morton or Muggsy Spanier any day!
Best wishes to all -
Jak.
Hey Jak,
No not you Jak, the other Jak (Oupuna) Jak!
Are you going to join us over on Historum.com and on Englistory.com Jak? I hope you will, the bar on Historum wouldn't be the same without the scented aroma of your pipe tobacco you know.

There's two 'Jaks'? Sorry Jak.
ճéè,
the other Jak from Ukraine is "Jack". But I "understand" the "misunderstandings", with all those Jacques. You have Jack, Jaak, Jakob and all that. On these boards it was the first time I met "Jak".
Kind regards and with esteem,
Paul.
PS: Hope that you have a bit of sunshine there on your Greek island, contrary to the misery of our rain overhere.
Hi Paul,
And not forgetting John!
No sunshine over here either I'm aftraid, just howling wind and lashing rain. A rather boring, normal winter on a Greek Island.
All the best
T

What a good idea.
I would like to nominate Mutatis Mutandis for his consistently informative and well-written posts.
TrailApe for his wonderfully funny anecdotes.
Stuart, for seeing off the 'Daily Mail' right-wing 'chancers' and those strong on opinion with no knowledge of history. You know, the ones who make outrageous claims then run away from the topic when they run out of evidence.
Andrew for his tolerance.
And Paul, for finally dropping his veneer of politeness and laying (his rather battered) cards on the table.

Hi U32. Thanks for your good wishes and hope you have a nice Xmas. I've enjoyed reading your posts and yes, in the interests of historical accuracy we must, indeed we have a duty to, keep up the pressure on suv intil the bitter end (ignore any boos).

Thanks Stuart, my best wishes to you and yours this Christmas.

I agree, we must see it through. It was our ‘Stalingrad’. Close fought, sometimes bitter, but an important battle. We defended our ‘turf’ and turned back the invader. We had our secret weapon, real books and specific page numbers. They had only bluster and assertion. No match. (But if you remember the ‘bloody’ battles on the old ‘Science’ and ‘R&E’ boards, this was a walk in the park, by comparison).
(ignore any boos)
Of course, there will be a few boos, (mostly from ‘walking wounded’, it seems).
No matter, water off a ducks back. Christopher Hitchens had a richer metaphor we can’t use here.
Thomas Paine (author of “Rights of Man”, “Common Sense” and “Age of Reason”), once the most popular author in America, had only six mourners at his funeral in 1809. Two were freed slaves; one was a Quaker, two of the other mourners probably didn’t want to be there. No church would accept his body for burial.
His work is still worth reading.
We can manage without applause.
