    Re: Stapleford. Nottinghamshire.
Purportedly STAPLEFORD can be written st_ aple - ford. This decribes the place where Helen Dale became a Christian Martyr in approximately 320AD. The 'st' refers to the Martyr as in St Helen, The 'aple' refers to her plea and 'ford' refers to Fordingham, the original name for Stapleford and Sandiacre in the Erewash Valley (west of Nottingham) where there was a Ford and Toll House before the Erewash River was deepened and canalised. The site of her Martyrdom is now St Helen's Parish Church, Church Street, Stapleford, Notttinghamshire; a few minutes walk from where I live. Apparently the tree she was hanged from was on the site of the present church spire. The body and the tree were burnt with faggots as Helen Dale was descrbed as a 'witch'. She was actually the Toll House keeper who was discovered giving a TITHE or 10% of her income to a small Christian community in what is now Stanton Dale, Derbyshire; on the west bank of the Erewash River.

    Re: Stanton Dale. Derbyshire.
Purportedly STANTON DALE can be written st_anton - dale. This describes the place where Antony Dale (a descendent of Helen Dale) was born in approximately 492AD. He became St Antony in the 9th Century. A parish church was built in his name between 1654 and 1657 during the so called 'Interregnum' of the 17th Century COMMONWEALTH. Built in the Medieval Style the foundation stone was laid by Oliver Cromwell: Lord Protector himself. The church known as St Antony's, Stanton Dale, Derbyshire: together with it's associated family chapel was usually refered to as the 'Garrison Church' of the NEW MODEL ARMY; a Barrack of which (including stables) lies below it on the escarpment on which the church is built. To the east lies the Erewash Valley and the Vale of what was historically known as Fordingham.
For the record Antony Dale was otherwise known as the Mercenary; Antonious Constantine: none other than the Emporer Constantine himself.
The FOUNDATION is ANGLICAN. A private family church and Trust; not associated with the C of E.

    Re: Wollaton. Nottinghamshire.
Purportedly WOLLATON can be written wo_lla - ton. This describes the place where a certain Leonard Dale died in approximately 520AD. The 'wo' refers to a Magus. The 'lla' refers to a place of burial, whilst 'ton' refers to the mound formed above a burial site. As far as can be ascertained the present site of St Leonard's Parish Church, Wollaton Village, Nottinghamshire marks the final resting place of the Magus, Leonard Dale. He was purportedly related historically to Helen Dale and was believed to be the father of Antony Dale, otherwise known as the Mercenary, Antonious Constantine ie. the Emporer Constantine. The 'foundation stone' of the parish church in Wollaton Village was purportedly laid in the presence of the Emporer Constantine in 522AD. It should be noted that the base of the tower, come spire is ROMANESQUE and that the door surrounds at 'base level' are also ROMANESQUE.
For the record; Wollaton was once refered to as part of Fordingham and lies to the north of the A52 or Old Derby Road. This road (now a dual - carriageway) dates to the Roman Period and extendes west to Stapleford, Sandiacre and over the Erewash Canal or river as it once was, towards Stanton Dale.
