No we don't.

I agree. Some posters here are turning the messageboard into a comic strip.

They can come in useful, if used wisely.
It's internet reality- everyone has them.

I havenΒ΄t used them too much, but thanks for this thread so I know, at least, itΒ΄s not a problem on my computer. Poor smileys.

As the family trees board never gets a visit friom the host and she visits here regularly then this is the only way we can communicate with her.
For those who dont like the smileys well we are not forcing them on you here on the HH but we do use them on the Bar thread on the family trees board.
Harpo how do you suggest we get our message across to the Host without involving you people as you are so knowledgeable?

I don't think Harpo was referring to you Edna, rather some on this board.
Sheesh, all this fuss over smilies for the bar?

You are right, Islanddawn.
Edna,
Please accept my apology for my post on the HH board. It was not directed at you personally but at another who uses them frequently, and to excess, in discussions on that board. I have no problem with smileys really. Of course they are appropriate in a social context in a thread such as this where things are less formal. Maybe I am a bit too stuffy and serious but my excuse is that I am a bit old (58) to have ever gotten used to using them.
The only smiley I know how to create is otherwise I would offer you a flower with a dove.
Best Wishes
Harpo

Harpo, it's no good trying to impress us on FH by telling us you are 58! A mere whippersnapper! I am 68, and several others around the same age. Another regular is in her 70s, but our "Matriarch" is Blossom, who is about 86.
The smiley thing started because we really wanted a emoticon after making do with nothing but . Now there's no stopping us!

Mid 70s, raunds ...
hey, think yourselves jolly lucky our snowball fights don't spill over onto this board, we are clearing up our bar for days after.
But it's all good fun and when you have been talking about ancestors who had a hard time of it or came to a sticky end, it gets a bit tense, so it's nice to relax.
For anyone in need, and leave the tea alone, that's mine

Raunsgirl, PailaG,
Rock on, Ladies! Had a nice little post from Blossom. Enjoy your little bar for the genealogical geriatrics over on Family Trees. It won't be long before I join you there, I'm sure!

Many posters like smileys. Where I spend most of my posting time there are hundreds - many of them animated.
HA!
