I don't know how many of you are aware that there was an officer named Blackadder in Marlborough's army.
He certainly didn't bring chaos.
Regards....................Alan
It's not an uncommon name, but I feel sorry for people who have to put up with all the jokes.

I dunno, it must be a lot worse if your name's Baldrick!
There are ten people called Blackadder in my local phone-book; it's the name of a river and an estate in SE Scotland.
In 1946 the L&NE Railway issued a booklet to commemorate the centenary of its line between Edinburgh and Berwick. It mentions a 19th-century shareholder "rejoicing in the name of Blackadder" who persistently asked that no trains should run on the Sabbath day.
Since then I've seen that memorable phrase "rejoicing in the name of Blackadder" - twice - used about other folk who happened to have the same name. And that was before the famous TV series.
In reply to alanpatten:
Aside from the Rowan Atkinson TV Series, did you get that from W. S. Churchills book about the Duke of Marlborough?
Thomas - No. My copy is:-
Marlborough as Militray Commander by David Chandler . Publ: Batsford 1973
ISBN 0 7134 1213 5.
I can thoroghly recommed it.
Regards...............Alan
