My Fathers first wife gave birth to a still born child in 1926. His wife died 3 weeks later.I have found details of both internments but I am curious to know whether I have a Step Brother or Sister. My Father married my Mother in 1930 and I was born in 1931. He never mentioned to me that he had a first wife. I found this out when I started researching my Family Tree Both my parents died long ago and I have no living relatives who can answer my query. Are there any records who may have a menton of the sex of the still born child?I would be most grateful to find out.Best Wishes Jim Procter

You find it better to post this on the family history board.
I believe that records of still-born children are only available in legal cases. You could ask the General Register Office and see what their response is.

As the birth in my query was 1926--ie before 1st July 1927--it would seem that there was no official record of the still birthof my sibling.Would there be any other recod that I could pursue such as the mothers medical record or the Funeral Directors records.?Or am I not allowed access to these?

As it was a stillbirth there was probably no name given to the baby, which makes searching more difficult. Even records may not help you there, as it may just have been recorded as 'male' or 'female' without a name.
Part of the trouble is that the attitude to stillbirths and neonatal death was so different then. It is possible that the baby was buried in a communal grave with no headstone. It would complicate things with the mother dying soon afterwards too. You just might manage to track down the hospital records if they still exist, but it's a long shot. Try the Record Office, they may know whether such documents exist. Sorry to be so negative, but medical records from so far back are rather sparse.

As an aside, the child wouldn't have been your "step" anything, but a half-brother or half-sister.
