Once again, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is pandering to the fringe nations of Britain and to foreigners, but is neglecting English national identity...
I refer, of course, to the range of smileys available. The Welsh get both a red dragon and a sheep , while the Scots have an alcoholic stag , but there is no English national symbol. Lancashire is reasonably well represented, with both a red rose and a Pendle witch , but what about everybody else?
As if that weren't bad enough, the Beeb is also pandering to foreign minorities - there's a white eagle for the Poles , a vampire bat for the Transylvanians and even a snowball for the Afghan/Colombian community. Even Martian immigrants get a selection of little green men .
Come on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ - up your game!
Well, what would be a suitable "English" icon?
(for London)
Well, what would be a suitable "English" icon?Β A foot ball hooligan holding a fried breakfast in one hand and a copy of the King James Bible in the other...?
Nah, Morris dancers!
In reply to Catigern:
A foot ball hooligan holding a fried breakfast in one hand and a copy of the King James Bible in the other...?Β
I would suggest St George, the England Flag or the Three Lions.
Shouldn't that be holding a copy of the Sun in the other?
I've just noticed that Catigern has missed one very important English emoticon that is actually on the list used by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. The pint.
I've just noticed that Catigern has missed one very important English emoticon that is actually on the list used by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. The pint.Β Ah, but, even leaving aside the penchant of the rest of these islands for pints, how are we to know it's a pint, and not a half litre or some other, dastardly, foreign invention.
Because it's in a proper pint glass, Catigern, . Aforesaid dastardly foreigners don't have them. You could always have a in the other hand, anyway, together with our national motto or "I blame the government", whichever you prefer.
A lobster-red, aggressive drunken blob in Union Jack shorts on a Spanish beach?
The reason there is no English icon is that Anglophobia is the only form of race hate allowed...more than that: it is promoted. The historian Robert Conquest mentions this in Reflections On A Ravaged Century.
