i guess my white ancestors fought on American side
my cherokee ancestors maybe fought on american side
the usa government didnt care and killed them anyway

Not much is said about the War of 1812. It seems to be one of those forgotten wars....
While a lot of black ex-slaves fought on the side of the Loyalists and the British in the War of Independence, were they in any way involved in this War? Or were the black slaves conveniently ignored by both sides this time?

My great-great-grandfather, a leather-tanner in the newly formed state of Ohio, was a volunteer called up in 1814 to help repell the British naval advance across Lake Erie. News travelled slow and people even slower. By the time they arrived, Commodore Perry had done the job.
