Whilst realising the need for a standard time was prompted by the coming of the rail network… who decided what day it was… or in what order. i.e. our Monday, may have been Tuesday in France, but Wednesday in Saxony… maybe Saturday in Normandy… but what about in Spain, or Italy… who and when was a standard set. Was there anyone refusing to cooperate… I can imagine terrible troubles, and squabbling about whose calendar should stay, and whose must change… and who was responsible for implementing the change, and how long did it take to be wholly accepted. Must have been done by the church I would imagine… but before then… what, Stonehenge time.

Gosh bandick, you do come up with some interesting questions, it must be all that lying around being bored. Anyway, it prompted me to start looking and I came across this

I think it was fairly civilised, but when it came to adapting to a different calendar with a year that began in January (instead of March 26th!) in this country, there was quite a furore!
I do transcribing for FreeReg and the PRs I'm doing at the moment cause a bit of a headache because they are Old Calendar but you don't want modern family historians getting confused (or the Windows WinReg program we use!) so you have to put eg 14 Jan 1702/03 until after March 25th then 1703
