Andrew

HI Bandick,
Yes - he also adopted the name Pol Pot. Notorious one-time leader of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. His government fell to the Vietnamese invasion on this day in 1979.
Your turn.

Thanks for that Andrew… nasty piece of work… I’d all but forgotten him, but on a recent thread I started a few weeks ago on ancient or historical sites… I was looking for Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious building… of course his name came up there and jogged my memory.
What links the following:
The Prohibition Years, 1686-1759
Beyond the Fringe
Fender Guitars
John Lennon's Rolls Royce
regards bandick.
two more clues:
It’s more of a material thing
The pattern of a Scottish town…
The prohibition thing was about banning Indian garments and fabrics to protect British markets. I guess they had swirly Paisley type patterns.
The town in Scotland is presumably Paisley.
John Lennon's car had a Paisley type design.
I can't work out the other clues though.
yes its all to do with paisley...
they all adopted the pattern
over to you...
bandick
Hmm, Maybe you could explain what the Fender guitar and Beyond the Fringe have to do with Paisley.
Anyway, in the meantime -
Who or what links a Β£100 note, Northampton, an apparent German spy arrested in England in 1915, and the Temperance Movement in Scotland?
The Prohibition Years, 1686-1759
Beyond the Fringe
John Lennon's Rolls Royce
And Fender Guitars made a range of Pink Paisley versions of their Telecaster guitar, by sticking paisley wallpaper onto the guitar bodies.
I'll get me coat.
I mean my Mackintosh.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Northampton - Derngate
Β£100 note- has him on it. (?Scottish note, not sure which bank)
1915 - was arrested as a spy - Suffolk somewhere?
Temperance - was one of the architects for their Glasgow HQ.
Yes, it was Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Well done Unrnungal. Your go.
CRM was wandering round Suffolk sketching and he was arrested on suspicion of spying. He's on the Clydesdale Β£100 note, his last architectural job was in Derngate Northampton and he designed the Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow, for Kate Cranston.
Sort of link - who was arrested sketching butterflies, and how does he connect with English red squirrels?
