Only half a day to listen again to Gid last Friday giving Middle Aged Shout Outs his very own twist after only a couple of hours' sleep.
We love Shaun, but this performance rocked!
Switched on this morning and was very pleasantly surprised to hear Gideon. So far as I'm concerned, GC is welcome any time of day.
I like the way Gid tells us anecdotes from the past at breakfast-time.
A great start to the day!
I was a bit tired and grumpy this morning and discovering that Gideon was on really cheered me up. Great stuff.
Another great show with varied and unusual music - on 6Music, no music should not be played just because it's not "cool" or not playlisted! Stephen Pile was an ideal guest. Ahead of his time with Heroic Failures - it's called Epic Fail nowadays.
The Hawk reminds us what a superstar Gid is by playing clips from "Why Don't You...?"
I don't know what Gideon has done to upset George Osborne. Good work, though.
Also, well done for refusing to play Chris de Bleurrrrgh.
Chris de Bleurrrrgh.Β
lol.
tolhurst.
Apropos of George Osborne's comments, just thought I'd mention a few well-known successful people called Gideon.
Gideon Gono - govenor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Gideon Oberson - swimwear designer
Gideon of the yard - fictional detective
Gideon Sundback - played a prominent role in the development of the zip fastener.
Not to forget, of course, Gideon Coe - a broadcaster who spreads good cheer and plays excellent music - currently providing an excellent alternative to listening to Radio 4's Today program. However, you would probably need to listen to Radio 4 in order to find out how much good cheer George Osborne is spreading.
I had to look up the connection to George Osborne - some hilarious stories out there, especially in the Daily Mirror, to which I shall not link.
Evidently George Osborne's real first name is Gideon but he started using his second Christian name as a teenager.
Which is George.
He was doing a Murray as Murray Walker's first name is Graeme.
If "life is easier as a George" maybe you are tough if you are called Gideon.
Like Marion "John Wayne" Morrison or Shirley "Big Daddy" Crabtree who apparently had girls' names. (sexism alert, joke, names are true)
Another well-known Gideon is the one providing "the greatest book of all" (depending on your views) to all hotels.
Gid's week of breakfast has just flown by - it's been a change for us too, I love Shaun and I like Gideon! (Won't say which is Daddy and which is Chips - google "Daddy or Chips", it's an advert.)
Other search engines are available, maybe they can't break the internet.
Thanks, Gid.
PS Don't think much of your photo on Wikipedia which gives away no middle name...
unless Gid was born in 1819 and is called Edward Gideon Coe...
Just looked at GC's wiki page and have to say that if the picture is anything to go by, the late nights have taken their toll. I'm quite jealous of the shoulder length hair, though.
I notice that on that ancestry page there is a Lyman Wetmore Coe. Fancy giving a child the name "Wetmore"; if that's not a self-fulfilling prophecy then I don't know what is.
At the risk of sounding sycophantic, just like to say it was great having Gideon on in the mornings.
Talk about Gideon's show and Freak Zone on the 6 Music Message boards.
