Gid played Argent's "Tragedy" from a 1972 Peel session on Thursday 28 April. It reminded me very much of "The Bridge" by Focus, off Moving Waves and part of "Eruption".
I note that Moving Waves is from 1972 which helps explain the similarity.
What other songs about bridges can you think of?
"Script of the Bridge" - Chameleons 1983 (album but not a song)
"Banished Bridge" - Novalis 1973 (they meant "Magic Bridge" or "Cursed Bridge")
"View from a Bridge" - Wilde 1982
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon & Garfunkel 1970
...?
Sorry, no edit, "Moving Waves" is from 1971.
Sur le pont d'Avignon
London Bridge is falling down
Ode to Billie Joe mentions a bridge quite a lot.
Bridge it the midget

Oh no! now I've got an annoying little high-pitched earworm going "Hellpo folks! Hellpo!"
So did she marry the King of the Blues, then?
I can't really think of many more bridge songs - not even the Forth, Tay*, Tamar or Humber Road bridges - there's "Ferry 'cross the Mersey" and groups like Hudson-Ford (let alone Ford Thunderbird from Doctorin' the Tardis...)
*OOOOOOOOH did anyone ever set McGonagall to music? lol
Orange Juice - Bridge
Japan - Burning Bridges
Richard Hawley - Lady's Bridge
Wax - Bridge To Your Heart
>>Bridge it the midget ... Now a short burst of Martha Midgett's ' Tommy might bring deliverance ...
but meanwhile a bridge list:
Billy Childish - At The Bridge
Dizzy Gillespie - Chelsea Bridge
Cuture - Baldhead Bridge
Swell Maps - Let's Buy A Bridge
Pogues - Misty Morning Albert Bridge
Mazzy Star - Look Down from The Bridge
Mighty Sparrow - London Bridge ..
Sonny Rollins - The Bridge
And Charlie Rich's Memphis Arkansas Bridge - one too far, pop pickers ?
So far as I know, no-one has set "The Tay Bridge Disaster" to music; these lines in particular could make it tricky. I reckon you could do something in 6/8 time but you wouldn't want to try to sing it with your mouth full of corn flakes.
By telling the world fearlessly without the least dismay,
That your central girders would not have given way,
At least many sensible men do say,
Had they been supported on each side with buttresses,
At least many sensible men confesses,
For the stronger we our houses do build,
The less chance we have of being killed.
C. Horne wrote aound sixteen verses for a ballad about the disaster.
I don't think it's on Youtoob !
...which will be remembered for a very long time!
James Brown, all that "take it to the bridge" stuff....
For the stronger we our houses do build,
The less chance we have of being killed.Μύ
Wise words, mate.
In French
"sur le pont d'Avignon" (trad. though allegedly originally "under" the bridge rather than "on" it). Racing driver Jean AlΓ©si lives in Avignon IIRC - he was interviewed there and, judging by the pictures, dancing "on" the bridge might be inadvisable as it only seems to go halfway across the RhΓ΄ne!
in German
Γber sieben BrΓΌcken musst du geh'n (Karat, E. Germany, 1979) - "you must cross seven bridges" - I've just read the lyrics for the first time ever and they STILL make no sense!
Was there ever a Fray Bentos (other tinned etc) cover of T'Pau - "Bridge of Pies"?
A few from my trusty Music Master Tracks Catalogue:
Bridge across forever
Bridge across the river
The bridge house
The bridge washed out
Bridge of Athlone
Bridge of Bogie (I'm guessing that would have to be a suspension bridge)
Bridge of God
Bridge if inhibition
Bridge of life
Bridge of lovers
Bridge of sighs
Bridge of spies
Bridge of sympathy
Bridge of tears
Bridge on the river Kwai
Bridge over the river Ash
Bridge passage for three plastic teeth
Bridge Street shuffle
The bridge
Bridge to your heart
A bridge too far
Bridges to burn
"Bridge passage for three plastic teeth"
And there was I thinking that one had to be little-known.
Google has 3,990,000 matches - the first (Brian Cox voice) zillion zillion ZILLION citing Roger Waters...
Evening folks.
Bridges Burning by The Mission springs to mind. Sorry if it's already been mentioned.
I'm surprised that no-one has written a song called "Bridge over Roger Waters"; perhaps I'll get on it.

"Bridge over Tim Brooke-Taylor" rings a bell.
Not on google it doesn't...
Half Man Half Biscuit! Of course.....
Upon Westminster Bridge.
"Bridge over Tim Brooke-Taylor" is from one of the Goodies' books, e.g. Criminal Record or The Goodies File.
I wasn't aware it had actually been recorded...
