  Apparently it's about cars damaging the environment. I was a fan. But I was only about 6 years old. Who'd have thunk it, the Osmonds were eco-warriors.

  Rumour has it that Gordon Brown was such a huge Osmonds fan that he believed the words to this song were "tax the smeg out of all cars emitting more than 225g CO2 per km" and eventually realised his childhood dream.
  
  Others believed the words were actually "smoking up the sky".
  
  Nigel Lawson reportedly liked "Puppy Love" so much that he abolished the dog licence in 1988.
  
  No wonder those two politicians were from different sides of the House - Nigel reportedly had posters of Donny on his wall while Gordon allegedly liked Merrill...

  The Clangers wanted to save, not just the planet, but space too, while The Wombles were IIRC one of the 1970s' most successful acts!

  Hard to believe that that message has been wasted. Now, in the Elevenses, people are going around with small coal-powered (electric) gadgets and carrying plastic bottles everywhere!
