    Something from 'Treasure' by the Cocteau Twins would be good, my favourite band of the '80s although there was only one other, The Smiths, (and maybe Blancmange).

    Wholeheartedly agree with most of the above suggestions, only *please* no The The or Martin Stephenson.

    I would add Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - choice tracks like 'Forest Fire', 'Charlotte Street' and 'Rattlesnakes'.

    Also the amazing Red Guitars - 'Steeltown', 'Dive', or 'Marimba Jive'

    Apart from The Smiths, REM, Pixies and The Miracle Legion the years 1984-89 were possibly the worst years every for rock/pop music.

    The only interesting things happening were house music and rap.
