Always been in awe of Arthur Brown's performance on 'Sunrise' from Galactic Zoo Dossier.
i think Kelly Hogan needs to feature in there somewhere. 'Circle' by the Jody Grind is swooning beautiful.
also - Cocteau Twins - Pearly Dew Drops Drop for swoopiness.
Stipe on "time after time etc" the live track is one of his finest.
and for venom, Husker Du (du du) - "sorry somehow". Blimey, Grant Hart was angry on that.
Here's three:-
Neil Young - After The Goldrush
Associates (Billy Mackenzie) - Breakfast
Talking Heads (David Byrne) - Pulled Up
There is a beautiful, fragile live version of Poor Wayfaring Stranger by Bill Munroe on YouTube. Introduced by a guy with a mullet but don't let that put you off.
I have never found this version on record but is worth hearing

Most beautiful moment for me goes to Scattered Black And Whites by Elbow. Wonderful to hear a gruff northern man singing soulfully.

Love the suggestion of "Sorry Somehow" by Husker DΓΌ, probably my favourite Grant Hart song.
In the interest of Husker balance could also suggest "JC Auto" by Sugar where Bob streches his vocal chords a bit too.
If I had to pick one Liz Fraser track it would be This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren".
Another Billy MacKenzie suggestion - "Nocturne VII" from his solo work.
Always liked Tom Waits' delivery on "Come On Up To The House"
Great vocal performances:
Tim Buckley - Song to the siren
Marvin Gaye - Right On
Captain Beefheart - Tropical Hotdog Night
Tom Verlaine/Television - See No Evil
Massive Attack (Tracey Thorne)- Protection
Todd Rundgren - I saw the light
Jeff Buckley - Dream brother
Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody
Donna Summer - State of Independence
The Isley Brothers - Summer breeze
Public Image/J Lydon - Poptones

My nominations:
Gary Brooker: "A Salty Dog"
Elvis Presley: "One Night"
Hank Williams "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry"
Tim Buckley: "Dolphins"
Thom York: "Karma Police"
I'd also like to second This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren".

Some more suggestions that came to me in my sleep
- Birthday by the Sugarcubes
Two backing vocal efforts (do they count?)
- Rock Lobster by the B52's for Kate Pierson/Cindy Wilson's efforts in making the noises of a dogfish, catfish, sea robin, piranha, narwhal, and a bikini whale.
- Stagger Lee by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for Blixa Bargeld's screams toward the end. This might need a heavy dose of Marc Riley's horn to get past the censors however
If Gid is smart he'll include some Tuvan throat singing like this...

Japan/Sylvian - Ghosts. A bit marmite but certainly conjures up an atmosphere.
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy. Can't remember who did the vocal but its wonderful!
Robert Wyatt - Shipbuilding
Also a sucker for Dean Wareham's wobbly vocals on Galaxie 500's Tugboat and Strange.

Oh and anything by Vini Reilly or MES.
Anything that Harriet Wheeler graced - if pushed to pick a couple of tracks, I'd nominate 'What Do You Think', or their splendid cover of 'Wild Horses'.
