Hello
What do you reckon then? Suggest as many as you like. I will suggest my own once I've tidied my room and found some of the ones I've forgotten about...
Being a little previous there, methinks. There's still a sixth of the year to go......although admittedly, December is not the month to release a new album!

Six days in Down - Bob Brozman and Co.
I haven't bought many CD's that have made into my indispensable box this year. The best so far for me is Caitlin Rose "Own Side Now".

Popular MP3/Phone combo thing says these are mine:
Shearwater - Golden Archipelago
Band of Horses - Infinite Arms
The National - High Violet
Foals - Total Life for Ever
John Grant - Queen of Denmark
Lone Wolf - Devil and I
Tindersticks - Falling Down a Mountain
Cherry Ghost - Beneath The Burning Shoreline
Besnard Lakes - ...Roaring Night
Caitlin Rose - Own Side Now
Beach House - Teen Dream
Great Lakes - Ways of Escape
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Ryan Bingham - Junky Star
Bombay Bicyce Club - Flaws
Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards - Shakes
KORT - Invariable Heartache
Deerhunter: Halcyon Digest
Flying Lotus: Cosmogramma
The Black Keys: Brothers
The Fall: Your Future Our Clutter
Four Tet: There Is Love in You
Demdike Stare: Liberation Through Hearing
Max Richter: Infra
Jaga Jazzist: One-Armed Bandit
2010 has been such a fabulous year musically that this is even more difficult than usual, but best albums would have to include (in no particular order, as they say):
Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz
These New Puritans - Hidden
Everything Everything - Man Alive
Lone Wolf - the Devil and I
Janelle Monae - Archandroid
The National - High Violet
Laura Veirs - July Flame
Efterklang - Magic Chairs
Maximum Balloon
John Grant - Queen of Denmark
Steve Mason - Boys Outside
Goldheart Assembly - Wolves and Thieves
Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here
Phantom Band - The Wants
...and so on, and so on....
probably still forgotten something!
I concur with the praise for Goldheart Assembly, Caitlin Rose, Phosphorescent, and Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards. To those I would add "Streets Of Our Time" by Danny & the Champions of the World, and "Without Why" by Rose Elinor Dougall. I'll go and check out some of the other suggestions above which may have passed me by.
Also, if you want to be down with the kids like me, check out the new solo debut double album "Rinse Out Friday/Spack Out Monday" by young London rapper Jam Baxter (not his real name admittedly, and better known in this household as "that feckless son of ours"). Possibly a bit shouty and sweary for some tastes, and certainly more late night 1Xtra territory than 6 Music. But various critics have described it as "sick" and "ill", which I believe constitutes plaudits in the world of hip hop.

Very much enjoying:

Deleted Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor by Caro Emerald
Long Live the Duke & The King by The Duke & the King
Come Around Sundown by Kings of Leon
Fables of the Reconstruction by REM (i know, i know but it was reissued and sounds fantastic)
Love & Its Opposite by Tracey Thorn
ooh, hadn't thought about this yet, there are probably quite a few contenders, including:

Hello again
Rough Trade shops (others are available and long may that continue) have just published their top 100 albums of 2010. It's on their website. No, I haven't got a link, sorry.
It's always an interesting list, serving to remind and to point you in certain directions. It also gives me another opportunity to visit one of their outlets later this week and tut loudly at the omissions.
Please continue to add to this thread. I'll do the same sometime in the next week or so.
Salut! x
Thanks Steve.

Not exactly a re-issue but I am finding Springsteen's 'The Promise" a fascinating listen in an unearthed time capsule sort of way.

Can't see beyond:
John Grant - Queen of Denmark
Midlake - Courage of Others
Tindersticks - Falling Down a Mountain
All scandalously low in or absent from the Rough Trade list.
There hasn't been a year before where there's so much new music I've wanted to listen to. There have been a few excellent albums and lots of good albums. I've limited my top 56 here - - to a top 26 here:
Manic Street Preachers
Postcards From a Young Man
Collapse Under the Empire
The Sirens Sound
Feeder
Renegades
Broken Bells
Broken Bells

Loveless Unbeliever
James
The Morning After

X's & Y's
So many good suggestions already! I agree re: Beach House, Vaselines, Archie Bronson Outfit & Sexual Objects.
Don't miss: The Books - The Way Out
A late entry for 'Constant Companion' by Doug Paisley. Also gets my vote for best album cover.

The more I listen to The Wants by the Phantom Band, the more I think it might be the album of the decade, let alone the year.
I can't believe we are thinking about this already. It feels just like yesterday, that I was placing Cass Mccombs Catacombs at the top spot for 2009
So here it is my top 5 for 2010 so far:
1. Forgiveness Rock Record by Broken Social Scene
2. Lisbon- The Walkmen
3. The Suburbs by Arcade Fire-
4. Romance is boring by Los Campesinos!
5. High Violet by The National
This might change as I am still waiting for my Age Of Adz LP from Sufjan Stevens
Also thought I mention the disappointments so far of 2010:
1. Kings of Leon- come around sundown (so hoped they would not continue on the 'Only by the Night' path)
2. Band of Horses- Infinite Arms
3. Strokes... ahhhh were is it???

Mojo's album of the year is Queen Of Denmark by John Grant. Quite an achievement that for a debut and fully deserved, it's a work of wonder.
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
The National - High Violet
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (II)
The Roots - How I got Over
Bonobo - Black Sands
Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Beach House - Teen Dream
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM
Broken Bells - Broken Bells
Yeasayer - Odd Blood
Cherry Ghost - Beneath This Burning Shoreline
Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can
The Walkmen - Lisbon
Kirsty Almeida - Pure Blue Green
Delorean - Subiza
Dark Night of the Soul - Sparklehorse/Danger Mouse
Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives
I haven't bought anything like enough albums this year, but recently got hold of Cherry Ghost's 'Beneath This Burning Shoreline' and it truly is a thing of beauty.

The just issued III/IV - Ryan Adams, that all 21 tracks were left off a previous release is quite staggering.
