6 Music axe discussion... what's your reason?

  Although it’s the Trust that needs to hear how incredible 6 Music is and not other 6 Music listeners, I thought it might help to start a discussion into just why 6 Music is worth the Β£ as if we can see the flaws in our own arguments then maybe we can articulate our opinions more effectively to these executive folk who make the final decision.
  
  I appreciate that Radio 1 attracts over thirty times the listener hours than 6 Music per month and I appreciate that if random people from the street were asked to listen to Gideon Coe or The Freak Zone then for most there would be nothing to hear but a garbled load of noise or the same sounds looped continuously with no music there at all….. but then most people are idiots, aren’t they? I HATE MOST PEOPLE!
  
  On a more serious note, do the people reading this agree that there are, very broadly speaking, there are two main motivations for listening to music: 1) because you have heard the music/that style of music many times before and you want that familiar, predictable feeling and 2) because you want something new and fresh which you have never heard before to surprise, invigorate and add something unique to your day. My suspicion is that people listen to Radio 1 and 2 mostly for the former reason and 6 Music for the latter. If you are a musician, you are much more likely to listen to music for the latter reason and therefore to 6 Music. To axe 6 Music now, having got thousands of listeners hooked on the unrivalled diversity offered by this beautifully eclectic station would show a huge lack of insight into the ways in which 6 Music really enriches peoples lives and the musical world as a whole. I would have thought that some of the more interesting new music heard on Radio 1 has been inspired by music heard on 6 music.
  
  You all know what I’m trying to say (I hope!) but please help me say it better as I don’t want to complete this review and be like β€œ6 Music is the best thing musically to come out of the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ, Radio 1 is rubbish” because I know they won’t understand, the silly money heads!

  I did think it must be guitars myself.
  
  One thing that is clear is that 6Music fans have a very varied and diverse outlook on life and are brought together only by a) music b) decorating and c) sheds. Quite emphatically not politics!
  
  One thing that just surprised me was a Lammo chatroom bod just now saying it was all too late to save 6Music.
  
  Visit (blue square) and make your voice heard - you have till 25 May!
