Cherry Cola. C-O-L-A : Cola.
also this gem from Country Joe and the Fish:
"Gimme a *"
[Crowd] "*!"
"Gimme a *"
"*!*
"Gimme a *"
"*!"
"Gimme a *"
"*!"
What does it spell?
"****!"
What does it spell?
"****!!"
What does it spell?
"****!!!"
[Under board rules, this exchange loses a little of its punch. Sorry]
My mate Chris has a terrible stammer and often performs at our local open mic night. If I can persuade him to do that song we may get a lock-in.
Meanwhile:

There's a song that's been on the 6Music playlist, I think by Hot Chip(?), which sounds a bit like early Sparks with a Speak and Spell machine (or what was that other one? Major Morgan?) where something is spelt out, there is a pause, and the spelling goes on again - like it was K.I.S.S.I.N.G. pause S.O.M.E. or something.
Trying to spell it out really irritated me!
all together now - the beatles
Does the alphabet count?
In which case "ABC" by the Jackson Five

Once saw Euros Childs perform an excruciating song about all kinds of B.R.E.A.D.
¶Ω.±υ.³§.°δ.°ΏΜύ
there's a French-language version of this too, spelling out the first letters of French words.
Ottawan were from Martinique - or at least lead singer Jean Patrick was - cue Postman Pat -
Jean Patrick
Jean Patrick
Jean Patrick
He's from Martinique -
though it must be said that the French version of "Hands Up" was not so good as "Haut Les Mains" has three syllables to the tune's two notes...
...no such problem with D.I.S.C.O., there wasn't a Y ("y grecque") so the English and French letters both fitted the tune...
A, E, A, E, I, O, U - Freez, 'IOU'
'But he never mentioned L.U.V' - Kirsty MacColl, 'He Never Mentioned Love'
'I'm H.A.P.P, P.P.Y...' - Kirsty MacColl, 'Happy'
1 2 X U - Wire
(though put it together and what do you get?)

well, it *is* Hot Chip "Over and Over" but now I have googled it I realise it isn't suitable! and not only because it mentions a brand of calculator!

We've covered this. Good fun and doesn't take long at all.
There's a Billy Connolly version of D.I.V.O.R.C.E which spells out quarantine, amongst other things.
Going on from "1 2 X U" we think of the many songs which seem to feature numbers called out, like OMD's "Bunkersoldiers" and that one by the Sisters of Mercy with all shouted numbers that sounds a bit like an American warzone - glad I said that, I've found I need to get a new copy of my CD database software! (new PC) (database OK)
I think I must mean "Detonation Boulevard" which is a lot less like Stan Ridgeway's "Camouflage" than the song I was thinking of.
Just the call of "Incoming!"
I suppose in letters and symbols that could read:
"O! U R 1 X G I!"
But it doesn't.
