    Hello,

What are the best ones of the year then?

    As many as you like
And feel free to mention reissues as well

We'll either do a night of albums of 2009 or feature them across a week towards the end of the year.

    Thanks

    Gidx

The 2 standout records I can't choose between at the moment are:

    M Ward - Hold Time
The Low Anthem - Oh My God Charlie Darwin

    I also very much enjoyed:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
    Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
    Jon Hopkins - Insides
    Dawn Landes - Sweetheart Rodeo

I'll pitch in if I may...

    Hospice by The Antlers.
Signal Morning by The Circulatory System.
Merriweather Post Pavillion - Animal Collective
    Josephone - Magnolia Electric Company
    Dragonslayer - Sunset Rubdown.

Compo - Dark Was The Night
Music Film - Soul Power or Anvil.
Live performance - Thom Yorke at Latitude.

We should have the Gidarmy Rock & Pop Awards 2009. Among the categories....
    Best New Act.
    Best UK Act.
Most disappointing Christmas album by folk legend.
    Most desperate posthumous cash-in single.
    Best Jack White side-project.

    That sort o thing.

That should read 'Josephine' by Magnolia Record Company. Wanted to get that clarified to avoid an outbreak of pedantry.

It's been a great year I reckon. I can pick three artists whose work had for some reason passed me by before this year:

Richmond Fontaine: "I used to think...."
    Alela Diane: "To be still"
Broken Family Band: "Please and Thank you"

And add in The Decemberists, Jason Lytle, Monsters of Folk, Leisure Society, Mumford and Sons, Euros Childs...

Forgot the rather obscure category of "Best Outtakes" -

Around The Well - Iron and Wine

If this is what he leaves out, imagine what the proper albums sound like.

I might just keep an eye out for that one. What sort of music is it - similar to the original Nuggets LP?

Isn't mid-November still a wee bit early for 'Best Album of the Year' lists? Last year, both the Headless Heroes & Vic Chesnutt/Elf Power albums didn't reach my ears until very late in the year and both ended up on my list. I therefore won't be revealing my top ten until the third week in December (around the same time I commence my Christmas shopping....).

Fanfarlo Scottish, Valour Gull? How so?

Picked up a copy of The Clientele's brand new album Bonfires On The Heath at their gig at the Luminaire in Kilburn last night. It's gone straight into my own personal albums of 2009 chart at number one (with the slight caveat that, my memory being how it is these days, I can't for the life of me remember what was released before about October).

Anyway, it's lovely wistful autumnal stuff. With trumpets in places. And the influence of Forever Changes clearly evident in some of the songs, which is no bad thing as far as I'm concerned.
