I have been making a mental list of songs about holes. This started with a desire, nay need to start a Bernard Cribbens covers/ tribute band. This project is still on hold and may include Tommy Steele now. I would like to exclude Nine Inch Nails and Muse as I don't much care for them.
Ahem
Bernard Cribbens - The Hole in the Ground
Handsome Family - The Bottomless Hole
Extreme - Whole Hearted (maybe not)
I am a mole
Silver Jews - K-hole
Rolling Stones - Down In The Hole
Booker T - Potato Hole
The Clash - Dig A Hole
Tom Waits - Way Down In The Hole
Lyric found in Elbow's Grounds for Divorce:
"There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall"
There's that Mercury Rev number.
And a few feature in Day in the Life
The one about the Mole is still the best though.
And a few feature in Day in the LifeΒ
at least we know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall!
Could they get a group discount on Virgin Trains from Blackburn nowadays?
You can't mention the Mole without mentioning U2's Excavation or whatever it's called.
And there's "Hole in my Shoe".
And the Beatles were also fixing a hole where the rain gets in.
Then there's the whole Hole back catalogue...

Hole - by Test Dept. Damn fine tune.
Go on Gideon - you know it makes sense.
"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin?
Again Elbow
You've gone, gone and made
A beautiful hole in my heart
from 'My Very Best'
Ahhhhhhhhh
"Hole Lotta Love" by Led ZeppelinΒ
just heard that in the pub, though to me it's the Top of the Pops music.
Then there's "The Hole of the Moon" by the Waterboys...
Shaun Keaveny tune before 9am news on 8/9/09: "Hole in my Shoe".
After 9am news: "Hole of the moon".
Is there an earwormhole from this thread into the playlist?

Tolhurst - seems like it. Its not the first time someone's come along to Gids messageboard and nicked an idea (or its been a BIG coincidence).........IMHO of course.
So if you like a song, post it here or e-mail it in. I know Jon Holmes played Blur's "She's So High" one Tuesday or Wednesday the week after I had said to Auntie Liz that it was Blur's stand-out track...
I like to think the shown inspires the whole network in terms of the outpouring of ideas it provides. Great theoretical leaps of our time such as "songs about holes".
And, it seems, in its small way it does. Coincidentally, yes. In such a way that only Lol notices, maybe.
I think we need another thread

I had been going to say maybe only I notice because I am one of the few who listens to both Gid and Shaun!
Then I saw who else is around!
You could argue, Gid, that the thread "Why Gid's shows are so good" together with powerpoint summaries for management, highlighting remuneration differences and savings targets to be met, to be left casually lying round the mahogany absinthe cabinets in the management suites, should have been posted several months ago. I have a Gid badge which Chris "the Chris" Hawkins claimed is already airbrushed - maybe if I added a shock of unkempt black, or maybe ginger, hair to it with a felt tip you would stand more of a chance.
Seriously, though, at a time when the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ management are talking about "the talent" in a Jumbo Whiffy kind of way, it seems so strange that the best they can get for their flagship breakfast show is a bloke who, over ten years ago(!), got so fed up with that exact timeslot that he just stopped coming in on Fridays or something.
But I won't suggest he could take an evening slot on another station which is Monday to Thursday only in exchange, as there's only so much Radio 2 music I can take. (Not that the DJ is irrelevant, though, it's 10:35 and, as usual, my radio is off! )
Don't forget David Bowie's "Andy Warhol"!
"It's pronounced warhole actually... as in 'holes'..."
yeah but Bowie pronounces it War-howel doesn't he?
*goes to investigate*

Wouldn't that rhyme with trowel (or is that my Northerner side coming out here?)
Think its 'hole' but with a sort of very soft 'l'.....
Now I think of it it's more of hoe(wl). Hope that's clear.

Shaun just played The Fall's version of "A Life in the Day" (Monday 14/9 at say just gone 9.10). Duly mentioned on "the Sixties Boyzone" thread.

Mole In A Hole (Richard & Linda Thompson) - no relation to the Southlanders' 'I am a mole and I live in a hole'!
