er back.
the above title is supposed to fit the tune to Land of A Thousand Dances.
Apologies if it doesn't scan. Thanks to Gary Crowley. Don't forget the Mainland Europe special on Monday night. The professor has been putting the finishing touches to the show while I was attempting to purchase a nail clipper in a french pharmacy. It's all very well these text books teaching kids how to order coffee in a cafe but any fool can do that. What about the stuff that really matters? Is there are shop in the village that sells ladles? Or is it ladels? Never mind.
Good to be back. Lovely to have a rest too. We all need a rest. Did the break lead to lots of new ideas for the show?.....................................................
Not yet. But it's stil only Saturday

Gary's done a splendid job whilst you were away, but its really nice to have you back in the driving seat!

French pharmacy? Some are useless, some speak excellent English and deserve the term "Pharm-assiste".
I spent half an hour on Thursday being chauffered round a small French town looking for a parking space to visit a (useless) pharmacy. I then found a much better one five minutes' walk from where I had started!
If anyone knows the link for the EHIC reimbursement procedure, can they please post it?
If "back" in French is "de retour" I wonder what that is in txtspk? 2 rtr?

NB re above, I regard "speaking excellent English" as a service way above the call of duty for a French chemist. I think if the customer of a French shop can't be bothered to try as much French as possible, he really can't expect very much in return...

I've inflicted my French on the pharmacist while on holiday. I pointed at middle son and said "Il a les insects sur le tete".
She said, in perfect English, "he's got nits then?". So either I can speak French or she managed to read something into his furious scratching of his head.

at least she didn't say "so he can't get a Beatles tune out of his head, then".
Re: EHIC reimbursement, it looks like you're supposed to do that locally if possible, otherwise ring Newcastle. Whoop de do.
And if you pay for prescriptions in England, the standard charge will be deducted from anything you get back.
Oh the joys of our Common Market. When you deserve something back, it's always really complicated and then you don't always get it.
Sounds like a song...

Was there any beach volley ball while you were away?

Yes, as it happens the French championships were held on the beach we frequented on the final day of our stay.
Competitors warmed up in our bit of the sea.
They passed up the opportunity to play with my son's inflatable turtle.
There was not a lot of local interest mainly because there were some old men playing pentanque nearby.

Hi Gideon,
I wondered due to this thread whether we could make a mix tape of B B B B s in songs, or maybe seque them together to give the biggest B B B b b b of all time.
Starting with Ba ba ba Barbara Anne by the Beach Boys
through Surfing Bird,
onto Elvis' B B B B baby on Lets Play House
and not forgetting Release the B B B Bats.
Who's got any more to add ?

Peter King - Bad Memory b b Bad Memory (Fashion FAD 045).
An absolute gem - the MC who's forgotten what he's supposed to be chatting about!
no YouTube found...

Right 6Music! I said Peter King - Bad Memory.
That's Peter King - Bad Memory.
Please play it, Gid!

There's the Babararacucudadas and "Summer Fun" - Ba ba ba etc
Or "Out in the Country". The Farmer's Boys' video version even has sheep singing the "baa baa baa baa" part...
