I have, of late, been listening to an awful lot of old John Peel recordings...

One imagines the old chap would approve as it's serving to introduce me to all manner of bits of music that's new to me, if not anything that's actually anything close to actually being new.

Anyway, I rather think that some sort of feature based on hidden gems from these great archives, or a forum discussion, might be in order.

I have a soft spot for 2003 -- with the wonderful 'Porn Shoes' by The French, Ballboy's cover of Born in the USA and 'John Peel is not Enough' by CLSM.

That having been said, 96 was a fine year thanks to PJ Harvey and John Parrish, Arab Strap and Kenickie, and '79 was awesome thanks to The Specials, Siouxsie, Bowie and others.

Anyone else here got any ideas for working this into Mr Coe's very fine show, or have any particularly fond memories of records, John accidentally bashing the mic waving to the pig, or generally providing other festive amusement?
