Hellpo,
unless I forget we will be discussing the best use of the hi-hat on the show of Monday the 11th. Feel free to contribute here and, where possible, provide phonetic sound effects. For example "Theme from Shaft" goes
tss-a-tss-a-tss-a-tss-a-tss-a-tss-a-tss-tss...Or does it? ...Tricky.
Hope all is well with you all y'all

Tssk, pesky hi-hats. Doesn't "Shaft" go wacka-wacka-waak-waak-ooops?
It goes ducka-ducka-ducka-ducka-ss.
Or does it?

Careful, or Fist will start a how-to-spell-riffs thread, second only to a "misheard lyrics" round.
I didn't spot the duck ass, but now I will, every time.
What about the hi-hat in Dub? With all that echo, you haven't got a hope in hell of being able to spell the sound phonetically.
Still sounds good though.
Easy this one - "December '63 (Oh What A Night) -Four Seasons, fantastic and seminal use of the hi-hat.
how about the sensational alex harvey band's hot city symphony, part 2: man in the jar? will confirm and provide phonetic sound effects when i get home i.e. i'll need to listen. the theme from shaft keeps gatecrashing my hi-hat thoughts, duck, ass and all.
But in Polish, the word "pchonk" means train.
Does this explain the height of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's top (high) hat?
And do trains really go "paradiddle"?

Paradiddle: only on jointed track, not continuously welded. And - point of order - when they go over points.
