Expect live tracks and more tonight from The Cramps.

In honour of the great man we will also be celebrating - with your help - the greatest rock n roll names ever! Be they made up or real life man.

    Contenders;-

    Steve Ignorant
    House of Lords
    Clive Dunn

Feel free to add them here along with tributes to one of the greatest frontmen you could ever wish for.

Saw them twice on the same tour within two days, firstly in Leicester where I was studying then in Cardiff. Both times superb, but the oddest thing was how totally different each night was - not just the audience the set list, the way they played, equally great but different.
I know a few Cardiffians who rate the Top Rank show as one of the best gigs they've seen here.

If there is Cramps tonight 'Twist and shout' remains one of my favourites......
    'this city's so mean,
    that the dogs don't bark
    But there's a rock 'n' roll scene
    growing in the dark
    Where the cheap perfume
    goes straight to your heart'

Was the Cramps track at the end of last night's show just a coincidence Gid? A tremendous loss, just as I was really getting into them in a big way too.

    Great "rock" names: Hovis Presley.

Erm, I didn't mean to insinuate above that Gideon had some kind of hand in his passing, I meant did 6 Music get the news before the rest of us.

We'd had a tip-off but we weren't able to firm it up before midnight.

I'd planned to play it anyway, that happens sometimes. One thing about the Cramps was the songs they covered pointed you towards bands you perhaps wouldn't have heard of otherwise. And they had a good line in innuendo. This is a very sad loss.

Just been made aware of this news.

A true original showman. Have just had to discuss the first Cramps gig I ever went to with a mate (1979/80 - L'pool Empire) and he reckons the Police were on as well. I must have struck that memory from my 6Music demographically-challenged mind.

Have just switched on, Mr Coe. Looking forward to a trip down memory lane, if that isn't too presumptuous in the hour you've got left...
