I know its rather downbeat, but if ever there was a duffer that deserves a mention on mondays show there was the bearded wonder.

(Thats the bloke who did the scores on test match cricket if you are not a cricket duffer)

Not often i feel genuinely upset about a bloke I never met - as somone in this tribute thread said, that Peel bloke is probably the last one, but this is one of those times. A true legend and a true duffer (with beard), no idea what music he liked but somone who I would have loved to be my favourtie uncle.

Non cricket bods please carry on as you probably wont get it.

Very sad news. He was one of the last links to the TMS of my youth. Just CMJ left now really.

If you love cricket, it's easy to love the stats around it. There's a desire to cross-reference everything and to spend hours reading old copies of Wisden. He took that to another level altogether.

He also did a mean impression of John Arlott, almost like having the great man back when he did that. And he perfected the "slightly off-mic" technique long before the days of zoo radio.

RIP. Head over the ball, front foot forward, boom - away.

There was a nice tribute to Bearders in the luncheon interval yesterday, which is also on the TMS Podcast. Blowers, Peter Baxter and Rory Bremner featured.

One of his more recent memorable moments came against South Africa last Summer when the team were persuaded by Tuffers to reveal their "rock star names" to much hilarity (Mother's maiden name and first pet.) Bill's was 'Ginger McNeil.' Ginger was a Tom!

Aggers does a fine job and CMJ makes me laugh, still. CMJ is due to arrive in Jamaica via boat, they're not sure exactly when!

    Back to the music.
