To steal an idea from our good friend Fist_of_Onan, I thought of another thread.
My random play on my MP3 player has just thrown up "When Doves Cry" by Prince. How many other songs have breeds of bird in their title, (and I do mean breeds; simply mentioning "bird" or "birds" does not count, (unless it's "blackbird" or similar of course))?
My list so far is;
"When Doves Cry" by Prince
"Blackbird" the Beatles (incidentally I am not allowing "Blackbyrd" by Donald Byrd)
"Albatross" by Fleetwood Mac
and errrmmmm....
... well, that's about it at the moment. Any advance?
'Foul Owl On The Prowl' by Boomer & Travis
Del Amitri - Crows in the wheatfield
Gerry Rafferty - Night Owl
Laura Cantrell - hummingbird
This has possibilities. Seeing as Lee started it, it's up to him when he starts allowing stupid puns. Though of course, there's no obligation to do this. (See rule 324b of the official message board thread handbook 2009)
The Durutti Column - Pigeon
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Crow Jane
The Beatles - Blue Jay Way
I say let the puns through but if anyone chances their arm with a bat and/or flying squirrel, shut it down.
I've got loads of work done today...
Me too.
Shuttleworth - Pigeons in Flight
"Theme from Magpie" anyone?
Not necessarily a pun as such, but certainly stretching the thread's rules to near-breaking point, (if not beyond).
"Pink Flamingos" by Rickie Lee Jones, (which incidentally is the opening track on her "Traffic From Paradise" album, whose closing track is "The Albatross! Spooky).
Jenny Wren by Paul McCartney
Swan Swan H by R.E.M.
Black Swan by Bert Jansch
Imagine The Swan by The Zombies
Swan Lee (Silas Lang) by Syd Barrett
Black Swan by Thom Yorke
I seem to be fairly Swan-centric on my itunes....
counting crows - a murder of one
penguin cafe orchestra - penguin cafe orchestra single
r.e.m. - king of birds
robyn hitchcock - birdshead
cuckoo - old folk song as done by Hem and others.
anything by Guillemots (especially Redwings)or Gannets (Fyfe's other band)
mr Hitchcock again - the black crow knows
xtc - skylarking
laura veirs - nightingale
jackson 5 - rockin' robin
t-rex - ride a white swan
capercaillie
the partridge family
housemartins
starlings - the name of the band escapes me... but it has a great guitar bit
The Leopards - Starlings. Lovely record. Might play it.

Fly Like An Eagle - Steve Miller Band
and anything by Gil Scot Heron.
eels' i like birds
captain's golden birdies
tunng's the wind up bird
hell roast the rules
rachel etc's blackbird
moonshake's beautiful pigeon
Starlings – the other one by that obscure Elbow lot
Rockin’ Robin – Michael Jackson (cover version which would also qualify for the covers better than original thread – possibly)
Fly like an eagle – Steve Miller Band
Poisoning pigeons in the park – Tom Lehrer
Kiss and swallow - IAMX
I wouldn't wish to pre-empt any executive ruling on "stupid puns" under rule 324b. However.
Bittern Sweet Symphony by The Verve
Tern Tern Tern by The Byrds, etc.
Raven On by Buddy Holly
Eider Way by The Twang
Teal For The Tillerman by Chat Stevens
No Egrets by Gulls Aloud
And so on.
If I were venturing into punland (which of course I would never dream of doing) I'd go with
The gull of my best friend - Elvis Presley
Who's that gull - Madonna
That gull is mine - Michael Jackson and Paul Mcartney
and finally
Shagath Bloody Shagath by Black Shagath
gull of kintyre - wings
A double word score!

Status Quo "Caroline"
I had a real crush on a bird called Caroline......
Sorry I'll get me coat
I'm very late to this party but did anyone mention 'Ice Cream For Crow' by Captain Beefheart, or Loudon Wainwright's sensitive ode to his son's twitching habits - 'Rufus is a t?! man' (stiffled sniggers).
Oh very late for me indeed:
Really about birds:
The Great Skua - British Sea Power
The Pelican - British Sea Power
Redwings - Guillemots
Cockateels -Guillemots
Just using bird-type metaphors:
Buzzards and Crows - Dirty pretty things
Spring Chicken - Brakes
El Condor Pasa - Simon and Garfunkel (on a traditional Latin American folk tune, I think)
I think there was a Libertines b-sides called Hummingbird but I won't google for this
Just the word that could be birdy:
?Robin Hood - The Rifles
Swallow Tattoo - the Long Blondes
Chick Lit - We Are Scientists
