...Oliver Postgate. A formative influence on many of us of a certain age.
A brief Ivor tribute tonight maybe?
Absolutely, and let's not forget the Clangers
I will third the motion.
The chap was clearly a duffer and his brilliant "Heath Robinson" approach to making children's programmes, (without any of this computer animation nonsense used these days), only serves to confirm his dufferdom.
See what we can do. The voice of my childhood along with Brian Cant's descriptions of who was emerging from the musical box.
The intro to Noggin the Nog ranks as one of the great intros to anything anywhere. Was there anything more comforting all those years ago than sitting with my brothers in a room smelling of toast while one of the clangers grew indignant due to the behaviour of the Iron Chicken? Ivor the Engine - wonderful, warm television depicting an innocent pre-Beeching world mixing the comforting with the magical and surreal. Dragons in the firebox. Elephants on the line. Fish and chips.
RIP indeed.
I'm not convinced that a true, 100% pure duffer could ever dream up an anti-establishment icon like the Iron Chicken. There was something brewing under the surface there...
Please don't play any Soup Dragons though.
Please do play something from the Clangers soundtrack CD though (Trunk Records) - it is really lovely. How I adore those little knitted whistling mice creatures. My partner prefers Noggin the Nog however.
