Don't know if it should have been a theme for a evening but inspired me from the Ultravox thread.
Hiroshima Mon Amour - I went and rented the film and can highly recommend it.
The beginning looks 'cobbled on ' to the rest of the film and is shot in a very hyptnotic repetative way that reming me of a Burroughs short that was made of repeated clips ( This film predates that ).
Then it follows a dark love story that is quite stunning

Thunder Road - inspired by the Robert Mitchum film, 'Night of the Hunter'.
Conversely Sean Penn's film 'The Indian Runner' was inspired by Springsteen's 'Highway Patrolman' - from the album Nebraska.
