What scary songs would make you dive under the duvet? Here's a few to get started......
Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi’s Dead
Iggy Pop – Fun Time
Edgar Winter Group – Frankenstein
Alice Cooper – Welcome to my Nightmare
VAST – Pretty When You Cry
David Bowie – Scary Monsters
Cannibal Corpse's, "Stripped, Raped And Strangled
Smashing Pumpkins', "Tonight, Tonight
David Bowie – Hearts Filthy Lesson
Siouxsie and the Banshees- Halloween
Public Image Limited – Order of Death
Roxy Music – Midnight Hour
For a scary instrumental, try 'Carnival of Souls' by Combustible Edison.
Oingo Boingo - No one lives forever.
The whole of Killing Joke's "What's This For"
The whole of Comus' "First Utterance".
Oh and pretty much everything on the Strangler's "MeninBlack"
Ministry's "Houses of the Molé" scares the bejesus out of me.
The Damned - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
The Damned - Grimly Fiendish
Band of Horses - Is There A Ghost
Genuinely scary songs:
Birthday Party - Kathy's Kisses
A fantastic study of obsession. Would also add 'Mutiny In Heaven' but it won't ever get played on the radio!
Rowland S Howard - Dead Radio
Or virtually anything from the marvellous 'Teenage Snuff Film' album.
Crime & The City Solution - The Dangling Man
The whole EP is terrific.
To be honest, though, it's Dire Straits that really scare the crap out of me.
Do they give you a shiver in the dark?
Oh would you look at that - it's raining in the park.
Over at the Frankenstein Place - Rocky Horror Picture Show
(then we can all sing along in the kitchen or wherever we are at the time) - that'd scare any potential trick or treaters..........

Jezebel Spirit by Brian Eno and David Byrne.
It features a real life sample of a phone in exorcism.
It still unsettles me
Hear it here
One of these days - Pink Floyd
Witch Queen from New Orleans - Redbone
Sabbath bloody sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black sabbath - Black Sabbath
The wizard - Black Sabbath
Chlidren of the grave - Black Sabbath
Lets face it...anything by Black Sabbath really
Well they're albums but...
Ghost in the machine - The Police
My life in the bush of ghosts - Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (I know a track from the album has already been listed but I just wanted to show off and list his full name - I'm a spod, I admit it!)
Bat out of hell - Meatloaf

Gary Gilmore's Eyes - The Adverts
Pretty much anything by Incubus but 'Warning' has a pretty scary video
Also listed above but I thought the video was needed to demostrate its scariness...whooooooo!
Ok I'm going now....
To creep things out completely, doesn't Rubber Ring by The Smiths contain a sample of Electronic Voice Phenomena (ie allegedly recordings of voices of the deceased). Sweet dreams, everyone!
Dunno about all this Black Sabbath, death metal stuff but the opening of Eldorado by ELO always used to give me the creeps...a disembodied voice, initially played backwards with strange musical sounds and voices in the background. Is this odd?

Has to be Planning To Rock's HIDING WHERE YOU'LL FIND ME.
Mind you there's a couple of Planning To Rock songs that I'd take a duvet to a gig to hide under. She's still one of the best performers I've ever seen. Mystery why she's not more famous!
Witches Hat by The Incredible String Band would be appropriate, although as I've pointed out before, it should of course be Witch's Hat:
Certainly the children have seen them
In quiet places where the moss grows green...
Or, for anyone who remembers the pun old days of Pop Trivia Tennis, anything by So-feared Hellish-Spectre.

Fairport Convention - It's Alright Ma It's Only Witchcraft
Five Man Electrical Band - Half Past Midnight
Gregory And The Hawk – Ghost
Curve - Horror Head
(Rhanks Tom Robinson )
I rhanks Tom as well
Dare I say it? hmmmmmm...
should I...
ooooh dunno...
could I live it down..
should I?
Um...
errmmm...
Blushing now
Ok here goes, don't say I didn't warn ya
Devil Woman - Cliff Richard
I feel dirty now
'Sumer Is Icumen In' always gives me the chills...
Hmm no Mr Bungle mentioned yet. I'll nominate the whole of the self-titled album; a terrifying forray into jazz, circus music, metal and a touch of Zappa.
It's not supernatural but 'Psycho' by Leon Payne is pretty damn weird. Later covered by Elvis Costello, of course.
Psychedelic Furs – The Ghost In You
Beck – Scarecrow
Howling Bells- I’m Not Afraid
Eyes without a face - Billy Idol
