For the new series of The Culture Show we're playing out with a song relating to the week's news - more details on the blog:
Having spotted your thread about songs to do with mental health I thought that you might just be the right people to ask about it!
My favourite songs about metal health are those of Elliott Smith, ok, they are mainly about drug use, but drug use induced by depression (I would say). Here's a typical lyric from Between the Bars:
Drink up with me now
And forget all about
the pressure of days
Do what I say
and I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head
Genius!
Neon Neon are the next band to play out on The Culture Show (following on from Richard Hawley and Elbow tonight) and if we don't want a song about Delorean we need to think quickly.

Xist Almighty - so we weren't just wasting our time! We've been TALENT SPOTTED by management!
I presume they want something with a bluntly obvious lyrical connection. I mean, anything by That Petrol Emotion fits the news this week, but the general public aren't going to recognise that. So how baout Cat People by David Bowie -"I've been putting out fire with Gasoline"
Or how about "war" by edwin starr? Good this week, and proably every week for another decade.
Hmm- struggling. Anyone know a song about rising oil prices, impending satgflation, environmental collapse, useless leaders and mute existential horror?
Wasn't there a track on the Jordan/Peter Andre duets album that dealt fairly succinctly with all of these, Fist? If memory serves it may also have offered a solution; it's obviously been cruelly overlooked. Damn those muso world politicians/bankers/Greenpeace activists. And, em, all the others.
Gid's just played The Monochrome Set followed by The Gang of Four - blinkin' flip: I'm 14 again!

I wouldn't quite claim to be the 'the management'
How about something more specific? Any songs appropriate to anti-terror legislation or dolphins being beached?
I know its stating the bleedin' obvious but how about The Danse Society's "Dolphins" - a nice little instrumental to top the show

Or 'Dolphins' by Tim Buckley. Lovely.
Ian Brown 'Dolphins Were Monkeys'
Because if they were they'd be able to just stroll down the beach back into the sea.

And what about David Davis's resignation? Any song titles or lyrics fit the bill?
