I'm bored, bored, bored.
Anyone fancy helping me find 200 songs on the subject of mental health. I'll kick off with one, ........... then you can all ignore this thread and let it hang in the air like a stale fart.
1. Uncorrected Personality Traits - Robyn Hitchcock
Cypress Hill - Insane In The Brain?
My faith in human nature (and its time wasting ability) is restored.
3. "Psychotic Reaction", Count Five.
Or slightly more seriously, Nick Drake- Black Eyed Dawg
5&6 Pink Floyd- Brain Damage/Shine On You Crazy Diamond
7. Psychiatric Explorations of the Fetus with Needles - Flaming Lips
8. Napoleon XIV- 'They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha'
I might go and download that one right now actually.
8. Hang on to your ego - Beach Boys
9. Crazy Horses - Osmonds.
Personality Crisis - New York Dolls
Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum - FB3
Psycho Killer - The Heads
14. All the madmen - Bowie
Psychotherapy - Ramones
Sandra's having her brain out - The Soft Boys
Psychotherapy - RamonesΒ
And just for the classic line:
"Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em
That I got no cerebellum."
"Teenage Lobotomy" also by the mighty fine Ramones. Cracking live tracks last night too gid - cheers.
And to also follow the Bowie theme - "Alladin Sane" anyone? Always one of my favourite piano solos anyway.
Madman running through the fields - Dantalion's Chariot
Committed - Roy Harper
Madness - Madness
Madness - Killing Joke
Bowie trivia alert.
A lad insane - written about his elder brother.
Famous-by-proxy alert: my little brother used to go school with Bowie's son.
Oh, and
21st century schizoid man - King Crimson
Strangely Strange but oddly normal - Dr Strangely Strange.
"Paranoia Blues" - Paul Simon
"Paranoid Android" - Radiohead
What you mean there's a common theme? Who's been talking about me?!!!
That reminds me ...
"Somebody's Watching Me" - Rockwell!!!!
continuing the Uncle Bobby sub theme...
Insanely Jealous - the soft boys
has no one thought of Sabbeth's Paranoid yet?
Crazy - Pylon (and covered by r.e.m.
Crazy - Patsy Cline
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
Madness
Mad about the boy....
coffee time
Laurence
How's about a personal favourite of mine, (which is a bit embarrassing if truth be told, but I'll admit to nonetheless), Liza Minelli's brilliant / camp / naff (in equal measures), "Losing My Mind".
She was also very brilliant in "Arrested Development"; probably the best piece of American sit com since the Simpsons.
"The coffee cup. I think about you". Genius.
On the subject of schizophrenia, might I add the Banshees' "Christine" and the ear-piercing "Eve White/Eve Black"
Pretty much anything by Malcolm Middleton, but in particular 'Death Love Depression Death Love.
Psycho - The Sonics
Strange - Wire
and, sounding bright & breezy as ever but rather sad lyrics Straight & Narrow - Teenage Fanclub
Excellent stuff
Whilst staring at the end of a paintbrush for 9 hours today, I came up with the following:
Paranoia - hawkwind
manic depression - hendrix
lithium - Nirvana
Dazed & Confused - Led Zeppelin
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Pixies - Where is my mind?
Rolling Stones - 19th nervous breakdown
Death in Vegas - Ayesha (just love Iggy even at his most hammy)
Joy Division - she's lost control
That one by The Doors where "he walks on down the hall" can't remember what it's called as I have gone right off them - are there bands you grow out of? The Doors might be one of them.
And there is Gloomy Sunday but this is so depressing that I can't listen to it, even sung by Billy Mackenzie. Please don't include that one as it is notorious as "the suicide song" and it is said that radio stations blacklisted it. If included on a mix CD it might send someone over the edge. Question: is there a more miserable downer of a song than this one? Leonard Cohen is chucklesome by comparison.
can I play too
we're all mad here- tom waits
lunatics lament - kevin ayers
she cracked - jonathan richman
personality parade - king of luxembourg
I come from another planet, baby
out of my mind on dope & speed
lunatic & fire pistol
since I lost my head, its awl-right - julian cope
Jugband Blues - Syd Barrett
Good call on ayesha, BTW. That song ROCKS
'Lobotomy Gets 'Em Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ' - The Men They Couldn't Hang
'Institution Green' - Suzanne Vega
you done my brain in - the bonzo dog doo-dah band
High Royds - Kaiser Chiefs
Steve - Don't know if you know this but High Royds, (the mental health institution to which that song refers), is soon to be a development of apartments! I drove past said place at the weekend and was gob-smacked at the appauling architecture which Leeds council have allowed to be thrown up next to that magnificent and imposing building.
I may be duffing but surely that's just plain wrong.
"Appauling" indeed, just like my speeling.
Therapy - Loudon Wainwright
The last time I took acid I went insane - Jeffery Lewis
is anyone counting? Have we got 200 yet???

How about Mommy's Not Talking Today - Hammell on Trial. A bit concerned I'm the only person I know who likes this record. Still.
Is this going to be released as a box set, by the way?
Lee - your right, it looks terrible. That said I'm pleased to be more familiar with the building looking in rather than looking out.
No, we've only got 60.
Anyone would think you lot have got something better to do.
Queen - "I'm Going Slightly Mad"
Found a few more that (kind of) fit the bill;
Loop A Loop - The Crimea
Absolutely Cuckoo - The Magnetic Fields
(Crazy for You but) Not That Crazy - The Magnetic Fields
Mad Cyril - Happy Mondays
Still think my Liza Minelli tune is the best so far, (especially as I was prepared to admit to knowing and liking it!).
Carry on...
I like the Liza Minelli one too, I'll go a step further and admit to buying the album (although I was rather disappointed with it as I found it rather soulless)
'institutionalized' by Suicidal Tendencies
Lulu Land - Camper Van Beethoven
"They're coming to take me away ha ha"
Talkin' to your Toothbrush - Cass Elliot
Mental -eels
Bonkers in Phoenix - Fall
Used to be in evil gazebo - HMHB (chorus: I've been in a mental hospital, I've been in a mental hospital etc)
What went wrong in your head - Supergrass
Went crazy - the teardrop explodes
and of course everything by Oxford's finest noise merchants- A Suitable Case for Treatment.
doctor mind - phluph
keep your mind open - kaleidoscope
