It just occurred to me that 'Dancing Queen' is one of the most wistful records ever made. Are there any other Wist Wagon contenders with such an out-and-out pop sensibility? The Wist Wagon occasionally tends to focus on your sensitive floppy-haired acoustic waif, not that I'm criticising, just maybe there's something more... out there...
*draws thoughtfully on pipe*
A further question: is there such a thing as "Power Wist" or is this a contradiction in terms? Occasional moments in Spector's stuff strike me as fitting the bill.
The only doll I've ever owned...
"Power Wist" must exist. Perhaps some of the softest of soft rock? Didn't Bon Jovi do one called "Cancer in the rain?"
Actually all proper power ballads are based on a healthy dose of wist aren't they. I just watched the video to 'St Elmo's Fire', it's a montage of people walking in the rain, gazing out of steamed-up windows and remembering back to their graduation.
Gladys Night and the Pips Wist tomorrow night. Which I am now tempted to twin with .. oh I don't know.
Back to tonight. I'm a bit behind. Sorry, carry on.
Gid
"I'm a cowboy - on a steel horse I ride....."
F_o_O - I'll see you "Wanted: Dead or Alive", (I thought it was a song about Pete Burns but there you go), and I'll raise you a "Summer of '69".
"Jimmy quit, Jody got married. I should have known we'd never get far".
Wist to the power 10.
Wist-mungous.
Wist overload.
Too... much... wist... may... explode... she... cannae... take... much... more... Captain.
K-A-BOOM!
How about 'Jessie' by Joshua Kadison. Never fails to dampen the corner of my eye.
If it got played on 6 music I might have to throw the DAB in the pond, mind. It's the principle of the thing.
Excellent call! You know I LIKE SUMMER OF '69. There you go, I've said it. I don't care, I'M NOT ASHAMED.
How about Kaylie by Marillion? Ca wist, non?
Also - and I defy anyone to naysay this one - Africa by Toto...."....the things we never had. do de doo do de do do do" Pure wist. And the time is ripe-to-bursting for a Toto revival.
I'm on a roll here: Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms.
It's the universal language of Wist. It knows no bounds - not even the bounds of taste.
I may return with a few suggestions from the canon of Chris de burgh.
I'm hoping we'll get a bit of Marillion on Scottish night, I fear I may be disappointed though.
Where is the Scottish Night thread, eh? Who's in charge here?
I hope he'll include some folk music from the little known Western Isle of Onan.
Any chance of "When Breaks Down" by Prefab Sprout?
As wist? For the next scottish nite? Or a new superblend: Scotch Wist?
BTW, the Scotch Wist concept is copyright.
