    Hiya Gid

Been in a quandary all week.

Do I persist with the live show or go back to Listen Again

Our Clocks changed on Saturday so now in order to catch the show live I have to log on at 7.00am.

When listening to the live programme I feel I have access to a Kindly old uncle with an enormous cardigan who dispenses his wisdom when asked

Although you are only 9 months older then me and don’t sport a big beard

    What do I do?

    Andrew (Melbourne Correspondent)

    Hiya Gid

I am still active in the field and listening live

Only this to report from St Kilda where I live

‘A MAJOR fireworks display in St Kilda last weekend has sparked anger from residents who mistook it for "industrial explosions".’

Not sure who the residents were but it was pretty loud.

    hiya gid,

whilst i am normally the islington-slightly-in-the-past correspondent, events have been such recently that it it might be best if my latest missive pertained to stockholm. Due to a glut of 30th birthday parties, i have spent the last two weekends in sweden and felt compelled to convey the following incident.

basically, in addition to the present for the party's hostess, I also made a small compilation CD containing some dancable tunes of the more 6music variety. all was going well as people bounced excitedly to reverend and the makers and the go! team, but around track 5 i made a tactical error by thinking that this would be a good point to slip in other cars go by it hugs back. lost them there. the CD was removed from the player and replaced by michael jackson.

not that i'm complaining about the michael jackson, i like to groove along to beat it as much as the next guy, but removing it hugs back?
shocking. i sent a drunken text to my brother complaining about it, although after a second white russian was feeling substantially better.

in other news, i was wondering if i could prevail on you and your fine listeners for a bit of advice: I am going to spent next week in Toronto for a conference and it would be great to be able to find some good live music while I am there. does anyone have any recommendations for either gigs or venues?

    many thanks,

Matt, london (but only, it seems, fleetingly).

With bank holidays coming up listeners need to be aware of the stressful issues facing Stockholm folk before deciding whether to venture here for their relaxing weekends away. I tell you none of this is made up and is all less then 30 days old, although the slugs have been an issue for some time.

Swedish DIY furniture giant Ikea has been ordered to give better instructions in Japan after a customer suffered minor injuries assembling a chest.

Mayor of Stockholm Kristina Axén Olin has handed in her resignation….In November last year Axén Olin took a month off work to resume a treatment programme she had begun earlier in the year for an alcohol problem.

Coming up with measures to combat unemployment is easy. But what is the government to do about those killer slugs?.... the Social Democrats are demanding that the government put forward a national strategy to combat the invasive slugs.

Swedish minster of agriculture, Eskil Erlandsson, has called for an EU ban on the docking of dogs' tails. Sweden banned the practice in 1989.

On the gig front Mr M Middleton recently sighted in Stockholm playing to somewhat small audience (c. 50) with consequent lack of atmosphere – no fault of Mr M’s – gave a good briefing on how to change a guitar string and the difficulties of touring using budget airlines.

Welcome to Buneos Aires. Well its late for me now - even though we are 4 hours behind too (at least now I arrive at work just as nemone is starting) and then have dolcate tones and the occasionally odd music, that confuses my Argentine workmates. They just dont get The Fall. But Im a music nazi so 6 music stays on. So news from here: Apart form chaos on the streets: drummers currently beating their way to the presidential palace, violence on teh football terraces, rocketing price of yup LEMONS. It is actually making the news. Photos of Lemon prices awere on the front of the newspapers. So if anyone wants to email me one, please do. My salads just dont taste the same.
    OK, Im boring myself .

Quick update from Stockholm Foreign & Occasional SW12 Correspondent

    - Weather here has of late reverted from a balmy high teens/low twenties to distinctly chilly single figures causing outbreaks of uncertainty amongst car drivers in the office who are debating extensively whether to swap back to winter tyres or to continue to risk it on summer tyres

    - Mr Cave and his bad seeds were in town on Saturday and put on a top performance to a sizable enthusiastic audience – sales of ear protectors were at an all time – 10 SEK a pair

    - Big event this week is Friday’s Krautrock Stockholm ’08 festival featuring none other than Faust as the top bill

With reference to last nights theme re parents at gigs – an honorable mention for my old man (probably already in bed) who attended the so called gig of the century at the Lyceum on 25th March 79 featuring the Fall, Mekons, Gang of Four, Stiff Little Fingers and the Human League – the latter being his favourite due to their re-working of You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling. Took me another 28 years before I got round to seeing the Human League again – they had changed.

He also drove me and some school mates to see David Bowie at Bingley Hall in Stafford on 25th June 1978 and whilst we enjoyed said gig he stood outside a TV shop and watched Argentina v Holland world cup final. Top parenting.

On Scottish theme night – how about digging out a track or two by Frankie Miller, probably from the Full House album, or more controversially from Rod Stewart’s early days to prove to the young folk that not everything he did was bad.

    Take care.

    Cheers Martyn

    Hiya Gid

While promenading the other day with the wife, I found myself saying out load

‘That’s Bloomin Clever’ (wasn’t exactly the word bloomin but you get the drift)

Not normally being a fan of the personalised vehicle number plate, I had to doff my hat to this car

It had TVC 15 as its moniker

Would like to think the owner actually got this for their vehicle, rather than it being randomly assigned

So are there any other bloomin clever song titles that can be used on vehicle registration plates

I now have my tickets for the Mod-fathers gig will report on it when he gets downunder

I'll be going to work in Hong Kong for a month from next weekend, I'd be happy to take on the temporary mantle of Hong Kong correspondent if there isn't a full time one already. Don't want to tread on anyone's toes when starting a new career in a new town.

The show starts at 4am over there so I'll have to make sure listen again is working and not censored by authorities; I've heard tell they take a firm line on duffing.

    待会儿见
