That may seem like another cheap way to get attention incorporating mild sub-Formby innuendo but, as it happens, I have some plums and they are not quote ripe and I don't know what to do with them.

Futhermore I know there's a tradition of helpful food-related advice on these boards and was hoping to elicit some more.

That apart, I confess that I have been spending time on other boards and seeing other threads. Indeed I was moved to defend duffing just a few moments ago. Or at least to explain that it's but a tiny fraction of the show.

    On other matters

    - If you're enjoying Paintbox Jury and want to it continue then send in some more pictures please to gideon.6music@bbc.co.uk

    - I am incorporating tracks from the "Shuffle thread" into shows along with tracks from suggested albums of the night (still on hold but seeping into the show delightfully).

    - I'm keen to continue the gig related threads we've been running on the show for the large part of April. So far we have discussed getting backstage, gig injuries, seeing more than two gigs in one night, and getting autographs. I'd also like to bring up the whole area of merchandise purchased while keeping some of the other themes going but in addition..

    - Feel free to suggest future subjects for discussion/eliciting mildly amusing stories either by addding to this thread or by e-mailing direct.

    - The path towards "reward-based duffing" is proving somewhat long and winding. Please keep the tales coming in the meantime.

    - Let us know if there's anything else I've forgotten.

    Keep rocking,

    Gidx

When do you want to eat your plums? THis week - keep out of fridge and they should be ready in a few days. Next week - in the fridge and they'll last a bit longer.

    Hmm. Plums...

There's a Mrs Beeton type saying for this kind of thing - fruit in season, keep it cold; fruit out of season, er, keep it at room temperature... or words to that effect.

    Plums out.

Of course, if you want to speed up the ripening process, there's nothing like putting your plums amongst a ripe banana.

My housemate insists on putting onions in the fridge. Not fridge etiquette, surely?

You're definitely Not Meant to put onions in the fridge. Or potatoes or bananas, it makes bananas black (our local fruit shop wraps them in blankets in the storeroom and at night in the shop as it's so cold), not sure what it does to onions or potatoes.

I wouldn't waste valuable fridge space with plums either, unless, as a mega-rich DJ you've got one of those great big american style things. Far better to fill one's fridge with alcohol.

No, no, no and no...fruit bowl for your fruit, veg rack for your veg - with notable exceptions in salad and the majestic mushrooms who traditionally live in the fridge.

It's turning into a full time ordeal with Mrs Monkey Harris who these days wants to put every edible thing in the house into the fridge...spuds in the fridge! What's going on there?

I bought a vastly overpriced multi-story veg rack thing not long ago which is now constantly laying empty apart from the onions and garlic sitting in bottom shelf.

My golden rule is...if the greengrocers have them in a little refrigerated display, fair enough carry on with the chilling at home (the mighty greengrocer knows best). However, if Mr Grocer has them in normal displays, or even better in boxes on the side of the road, then let's get some use out of our vegetable racks!

Think it's time I got some campaigning t-shirts printed

    Take it easy

    Monkey

    This Is Just To Say

    I have eaten
    the plums
    that were in
    the icebox

    and which
    you were probably
    saving
    for breakfast.

    Forgive me
    they were delicious
    so sweet
    and so cold.

I hope this answers your question!

I tend to put all my fruit and veg in the fridge. Yes, even potatoes and onions.

My kitchen sometimes gets too warm because it is small and a bit of a sun trap, and I have no pantry. As such, root veg has a tendenacy to all soft and wrinkley too quickly - especially in the summer!

Better stuff lasts and in the fridge IMHO.

    Gid,

I too have taken delivery of some rather rock-hard plums, (ahem), this week from my "Greener Grocer". My plan is to make a small crumble with the plumbs thus navigating the "to ripen or refrigerate" quandary.

Generally speaking though, my yardstick is; if it wilts at room temperature, put it in the fridge, if it doesn't, leave it out to ripen.

On to matters show-related; when I contributed to the the "iPod Shuffle" thread, I made mention that my missus has all her albums loaded onto my iPod, (that's my excuse anyway), so I was quite lucky in my Shuffle roulette as I could have had a track by Suga Babes, George Michael or the Bugsy Malone Soundtrack.

The next person to write in the thread then leapt to the defence of the Bugsy Malone Soundtrack, stating that it was easily passable as a "guilty pleasure", especially the song "You Give a Little Love". Which got me thinking...

Is there any chance of introducing a "Guilty Pleasures" section to your show, (possibly weekly, a la "Whist Wagon" or nightly, your choice), where listeners get to request those tracks that we really shouldn't admit to knowing let alone liking but that secretly, we can't help but love?

One possible disadvantage of agreeing to such a proposal is that I can probably provide you with about 2,000 examples of my own guilty pleasures. That said, I think it's got legs? What do you say?

    All together now...

"We could have been anything that we wanted to be..."

Hasn't a certain Mr Rowley got that whole Guilty Pleasures franchise sewn up? (I think it's a dubious concept anyway - you either like something or you don't. Are we so afraid of what other people might think of our tastes? And what constitutes a non-guilty pleasure?)

OOh... I got a pen tablet for my computer for my birthday (last week, thanks for asking) so i'd be very much up for doing an album cover. I'll try and do one this evening.

Lee 1975 - what on earth is a "whist wagon"?
Is this similar to the legendary cribbage carriage? The bridge buggy? The patience perambulator? The - I could go on.

Pedant or duffer? You decide: it's a thin line.

I feel it only fair to point out, however, that I am presently wearing a 'real goat skin and wool' cardigan by Hornes of London that is exactly the same as that worn by Richard Barratt of 'The Champions'(played, of course, by Sir William Gaunt).

Whist, my goodman, is how my spell checker chooses to spell "Wist".

Don't blame me, I'm dyslexic. It all looks perfectly fine to me.

(Goes for the sympathy vote, "Sniff, sniff").

By the way, I'd definitely plump for "pedant" over "duffer", irrespective of your choice of clothing.

I once watched a rugby match during which a particularly excitable player was yellow carded for 10 minutes with the recommendation that he use this period of reflection to 'cool his plums'. Clearly we know the camp to which that particular referee belongs.

OK, it's taken me a week to work this out, but am I to understand there are people out there who can do paintbox jury entries by drawing them like with a real pen?

No wonder some of them are so good, and my luddite mouse drawn efforts are so bad.

You can buy graphics tablets which replace (or work alongside) a mouse.

You get a little pad and a stylus, which looks like a pen.

You can use it either as a mouse replacement, or indeed to do detailed art work. They take a bit of getting used to, but they're quite cool
