Hello,
Just so you know, change of plan this week. I'm not away at a hotel drinking too much Calvados. I'm at home nursing a boy with Chicken Pox. Lovely. It arrived on Saturday night. Since then we've heard many theories as to when the contagious period ends. We're waiting for blisters all over apparently. Is that right?
Either way, until whenever it's safe to emerge we're confined to barracks and I'm currently overseeing the construction of a T-rex (the long-dead creature not the band)using only bits of paper cut out from magazines.
So, what am I telling you for? Well, in the words of the punchline to one of my favourite gags "I'm telling everybody".
I might make it out to see The Wave Pictures tomorrow night but the rest of the time I'll be listening to Gary Crowley and I hope you will be too.
Any Chicken Pox advice in the meantime....
Keep rocking
Gidx
Ah contagious diseases... they are a beautiful thing. You know, the world's gone downhill since they got rid of the plague.
You could leave you front door open without any worries and there was affordable housing for all. Ok, you had to remove the bodies first, but still. None of that youth crime either.
Bring back those heady days of the middle ages.
Probably help reduce CO2 emissions too!

I hope you've already had it - chicken pox. When I caught it off my son in my '30's I can honestly say I've never been as ill in all my life - and don't pick the scabs.

I had that when I was a kid way back in the swinging 60's as did my sister. While I was covered in the spots (as I remember, somewhat hazily) I've heard that someone else unfortunate to get chicken pox might only have one or two spots.
chicken pox, bird flu - how comes our feathered friends get lumbered with diseases named after them?
could an avian disease be countered by cat scratch fever?
you could pass the time creating imaginary creatures using connect the dots.
all the best to the nipper.

nae luck gideon
I agree, don't scratch. apparently I had them in my mouth
just up, had to finish reading book, just about to listen to gary
fitba or yoga tonight? think I should watch the bhoys crash out of europe. tried your cup final approach for first leg, didn't work. pub it is
Plenty of calamine lotion and no scratching!
Bit of dub fine though.
I'll get me coat ...
My chickens never caught chicken pox. They did however harbour just about every other disease and intestinal parasite in the book. I'll spare you the details in case your having spaghetti for tea.
But my gran got chicken pox a second time as shingles -- IN HER EYES. Ugh.
Chiken pox is a member of the Herpes family of viruses, and once caught never leaves your body,(like cold sores), but lurks suppressed, in your spine.
Gid - is all this helping?
It's every bit as informative as I expected it to be. Thanks. I'm taking him to the park today. I will enforce my own ten yard exclusion zone in the sandpit.
I really think we should do more about Chickens on the show.
How about the following three themed hours - with due respect to Bobby D - on Easter Monday
New Jersey artistes
4AD artists
Songs related to chickens/mentioning chickens/poultry..
Mmm.
Carry on please.

On the themed hours, what about weather related songs. I'd suggest 'Tornadoes' by Drive-by Truckers from their album 'The Dirty South' as one track. This seems to be a pretty graphic account of what it's like for anyone unfortunate enough to experience a tornado and survive to tell the tale (or indeed write the song!)
I'm all for the themed show. Might I suggest a bit of Rema Rema for the 4AD slot? And I seem to remember an old flatmate being a bit partial to Louis Jordan's "Ain't nobody here but us chickens". It was our Friday night going out song - accompanied by a bottle of QC sherry. My how we lived in those days.

I had Chicken pox on my eyelid. You should check Riley's board Gid - he has a grand idea for an advert for you two.
Sorry that the holiday's been ruined. Curses but get well soon to the boy.

Had it aged 11. Best way to stop the lad scratching his scabs is to tie boxing gloves on him. Could mean the T-Rex will be mostly your work. You can keep the gloves for your TV bout with Riley.

Throwing Muses 'Cry Baby Cry' - "Keep feeling like a baby chicken"
4Ad and Chickens..thank you, thank you, thank you.
Gideon, if you get a really bad ache round your stomach/back, get to the GP quick, there's an injection you can get to help ease Shingles, but it has to be given straight away to work.
Adult chicken pox is a nightmare.
Get your son some dot to dot books, that's what my brother got me!
I can say from personal experience you should be thankful to have been spared the drinking of too much calvados.
Hope the wee boy's better soon. I believe calamine lotion is out of favour as it's too drying.
Apparently, contrary to popular belief it is possible to get chicken pox twice - child at daughter's school did, and her dad's a doctor, so he should know!
Gideon,
My 21-month old son returned from nursery last night with chicken pox! I didn't know you could catch that virus just by opening your link on the PC! Oh well, it's quarantine for me and junior for the next few days as well.
Any advice on making dinosaurs from magazines would be greatly received!
Got to say, Gary doing a great stand in job for you this week as well.
Can I suggest Chicken Payback by The Bees for your poultry themed night?
at the risk of song sticking in head for the rest of the day, can I suggest - a chicken with its head cut off - magnetic fields
too late
how's the scratching?
x
My Dad had a record called "Ten Ton Chicken" by Chicken Shack. I dont recall if it was free range though.......
Ry Cooder did a great album called "Chicken Skin music." And there was Jazz-fusion band called "The Egg".
Do we "do" Jazz-fusion on 6? Thought not.
Pink Floyd's track "Alan's psychedelic breakfast" includes a section called "Sunny side up"
Well if we're going down that route, can we have a trio of tracks from 70s prog rockers 'Egg', followed by electronic funkateers 'The Egg', followed by American indie-popsters 'Eggs'.
Then play 'Back To The Egg' in its entirety.

for a chicken-themed show I humbly submit Hasil Adkins's fine effort "Poultry in Motion" - all his songs about chicken collected on one lp. good stuff.
Chicken Pox is not such good stuff though, bad luck

Perhaps a bit on the mainstream side but what about Paul Simon's 'Mother & Child Reunion' which was supposedly inspired by an egg & chicken meal!
The Beatles - White Albumen. Chortle.
I caught it aged 35 from the nippers in August 2003, 100 degrees outside & me melting into the sofa looking like something off Doctor Who.
Hideous ordeal!
The Smiths: That Yolk Isn't Runny Anymore.
Guffaw!

Hows about:
The Fall - Free Range
and the antithesis:
Metallica - Battery
Sorry...
To add to the theme Mark Lamaar played a good set by a bend new to me a few weeks ago - Chicken Legs Weaver - their CD Nowhere is worth a listen.
You could combine it with your proposed Caledonian special and have a scotch egg night.
(sorry)
