Hello,
Hopefully that's got your attention. I'm just taking time out from writing an article on whether or not men and women react differently to articles about whether men and women react differently to music. I wonder how people will react to the article?
Man, that blows the mind don't it? Just realised I haven't posted here for a while and I can update you on the following:-
1 - Album of the Night. Is due to start on the 10th March. My only concern is that it might upset the delicate balance of the show. We'll give it a bash and see how we go - feel free to leave your selection and choice of tracks below or in the thread started some time ago. Remember we are seeking to never duplicate an album of the day. It's a sister feature to that if you like.
2 - Paintbox Jury - is back and looking lovely. We have some regular artists doing the donkey work - please weigh in and send yours in too. Either that or I'll be forced to use my appalling "Freewheelin'" again.
3 - No word on the duffer badge situation but I'm working on it.
4 - there is no 4.
I'm off for a week from the 3rd. The great Gary Crowley is sitting in. If anyone knows of any decent pubs near Chesil Beach in Dorset then let me know.
Keep rocking
Gidx

To be completely fair you need to get the Mrs to have a bash at writing the same article and print them side by side.
Been listening to Trouble Over Bridgwater recently by any chance? Be sure to check out that wonderful Bulbarrow hill.

What a disappointment. I've always ripened the avocado in a bag with a banana and was looking for a technique a bit more fail-safe.

I read the messageboards using the RSS feeds. Rather than reading the you know who thread on the General message boards the first one I clicked on was this - "Avocado Ripening Issues" -does that make me a bit dufferish?
2 - Paintbox Jury. I've just sent one in.

Don't forget to add that you are stuffy, old and a repellent to women listening to records in your article, Mr Coe.
I can see how Album of the Night might upset the balance of the show. What would it replace? The playlist tracks? A concert recording? I don't want to lose any of the session material from the show, these are the best bits.

mmmmm mushy peas
I love avacados - with their leathery skin, and the way they roll themselves up into a ball when attacked.

Now I'm really confused. I was all set for fajitas lathered in the green stuff tonight, but the peas shout could mean a fish supper from the Silvery Tay. Don't know which way to go.

Mmm... guacamole recipes anyone?
Mash the avocado, along with some garlic.
Add a finely chopped shallot and a finely chopped fresh chilli.
Sprinkle some paprika.
Add juice of a fresh lime
Good dollop of sour cream
Pinch of salt and a good helping of black pepper.
If you're feeling a bit cheeky, maybe add some finely chopped tomato and perhaps even some coriander.
Stir it all together, taste and adjust as necessary.
Serve with warm sun-dried tomato pitta bread.
Mmm. Or as batman would say, "holy guacamole!".

Mmm... sounds good and so similar to the way I do it but I prefer my avocado lightly crushed and I use that smoked paprika in a tin with the awkward lid that can only be opened with a blunt knife. Other brands are available, of course.
I also add finely chopped tomato and coriander just to be cheeky.
What's the best for avocado in guacamole - mashed or crushed?
Crushed!

Gid,
as a female I will not have the intellect to read your article for myself, I'm afraid. I'll get a man to read it and explain it to me. Or maybe I'll just listen to some 'emotional' music instead. I hear 10-1 during the day on 6Music is perfect for the female listener...
1-I'm into the Album of the Night spot, good plan.
2-I can't contribute to Paintbox Jury cos I can't draw (in either the real world or the virtual one). However, I do enjoy taking part in PJ, so I hope your other loyal listeners keep up the sterling work. Otherwise, I can't be held responsible for what may happen if you embark on the whole "Freewheelin" route again...
3- I have my duffer badge from the era before the 6Music world went mad, ta. I hope more can be forthcoming for other listeners because they are truly worth owning. I'm very proud of mine.
4- Point 4 will come to you, don't worry.
Keep up the good work, Mr Coe.
Marie

Hi Gid
Just to say my partner and I listen again on Sunday afternoon to your dulcet tones (and through the week at certain times!).
I'll be curious to read your reaction to the reaction on women and men listening to music (and all that reaction). We've both never written to you on the show or the board but have enjoyed it. At my partner's old job you made going in during the mornings to a demanding boss bearable, just thought you should know.
As for guacomole, I'm happy others use paprika!
I'll do the pubs bit for ya Gid:
Weymouth, nearest town, 4 pubs to go at:
Boot Inn, High Street. Ringwoods superb beers. 'An old fashioned pub where conversation dominates'
Red Lion, Hope Street. 5 'truncheons'
Weatherbury Hotel, Carleton Rd North. Fullers ales. 'Well behaved children welcome'
Wellington Arms, St Albans Street. 'Good old fashioned local, families welcome in quiet back room. Changing beer range.
BRIDPORT: Greyhound. East Street. Wetherspoons pub.
Taken from the Good Beer Guide 2008, essential for the discerning ale connoisseur........
Happy holidays....

what ever you do, don't feed avocado to chickens. Its poisonous to them.
But they do like grapes.

inthehills
strange that, it goes well with chicken in a sandwich.
My chickens would eat anything - including once a rat they cornered and killed. Mmmmm.
The Mayans called the avacado tree the "Testicle Tree" because of the way the wrinkly fruit hang in pairs.
(Apologies if you're eating one. An avacado, that is)

You can cheat and do a Gaordon Ramsey Fajita, this is my vague memory of what to do:
Fry up the onions and tomatoes and I think some chilli, fry the chicken strips (marinade the chilli in some oil and lime juice for 20 minutes before hand) and then just chop the avocado and put it all into the fajitas.
Same taste not so much work!
Wow chickens killed a rat! those are well hard chickens.
They were reet hard when I ate them too. 3 hours in the casserole and still like eating school plimsoles.
While we chewed, we tried not to think about their diet of rat.
