.. is a very good idea - an echo of the Great Lost Album daytime feature.
My suggestions would be:-
Bring The Family - John Hiatt
On The Beach - Neil Young
It Still Moves - My Morning Jacket
Great idea.
May I suggest:
Ian Hunter - All American Alien Boy
The Birthday Party - Prayers on Fire
Throwing Muses - The Real Ramona
Loved the Upstarts session, Gid.
Thanks I was going to start this thread but then got distracted by football and soup.
Same old story.
So the plan is to have an album of the night. If you like, a companion piece to the album of the day on 6music but the idea is never to duplicate the latter. That would be pointless. One track an hour 10-1.
It can be brand new, recent, getting on a bit or ages old. It doesn't matter, as long as it's any good. And as long as we can get hold of it. And I want to mix it up as much as possible. Regardless of genre. Guitars are welcome as are beats and echoes and any other noises you might want to recommend.
Once we have enough suggestions, all being well we'll give it a whirl. So, over to you. Suggest an Album of the Night and three tracks to play and we'll see how we get on
Gid
From the Hiatt album my 3 would be :
Have A Little Faith In Me
Your Dad Did
Tip of my Tongue
i'd pick
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
Let Me Come Over - Buffalo Tom
King - Belly
Concert program - Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Underwater Moonlight - Soft Boys
the hard part will getting just three tracks from each to play
You want tracks as well?
All American Alien Boy: All American Alien Boy, Irene Wilde, God
Prayers on Fire: King Ink, Yard, Kathy's Kisses (an extra track I know)
Real Ramona: Counting Backwards, Hook in Her Head, Not Too Soon
Can I suggest:
I Often Dream of Trains - Robyn Hitchcock
Fircarraldo - Frames
Songs for Drella - Lou Reed and John Cale

How about David Byrne/Brian Eno's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts?
I played it tonight for the first time in ages - I'd forgotten just how good it is.

James Yorkston - Year of the Leopard (Brussels Rambler, Woozy With Cider, 5am)
My Latest Novel - Wolves (Pretty in a Panic, Hope Edition, Sister Sneaker Sister Soul, in fact, it's all great)
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
The National - Alligator
Grandaddy - Just Like the Fambly Cat (a great album, forgotten because it was their last)

And there was me going to suggest Solid Air by John Martyn but I'm not sure if Gideon would have ever heard of it

Although riding on the waves of the "quiet is the new loud" movement of the late 1990's and probably would send all the listeners off into a tranquil sleep lasting about 100 years, I would like to offer up The Lilac Time: Looking for a Day in the Night. 3 tracks possibly, although open to suggestion could be: Salvation Song, I Won't Die For You and Mayfly Too. There are 18 tracks on my version - Blimey!!!

OH YES!

Just in time for Valentines Day, I'd suggest Drive-By Truckers 'A Blessing & A Curse'. Track wise I'd suggest:
1) Feb 14. Not as you might think a full of red roses etc. In fact it's the exact opposite.
2) Gravity's Gone.
3) Aftermath USA.
Another to consider is Niel Young 'Freedom'. Two tracks off this that I'd suggest are:
Rockin In The Free World. (track 12 which is the rock version)
On Broadway. Have you ever heard a rock version of the classic show tune. This is it!
I'll leave the third choice to Gideon & the crew should it ever be picked!
Ok, here we go. I'll suggest three...
Band Of Horses: Everything All The Time
Tracks: Wicked Gil, The Funeral and The Great Salt Lake
Shack: H.M.S. Fable
Tracks: Comedy, Pull Together and Lend's Some Dough
...and knowing you said that it can be guitars if we want...
Decoration: Don't Disappoint Me Now
Tracks: Escape Routine, Fly North and Job In London
Hmmmm...identity revealed
If you picked any of these it would be a fine, fine night:
Homogenic - Bjork
Casanova - The Divine Comedy
Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus - Nick Cave and the BS (tee hee)
Rachel, W12

I'd like to second the suggestion for "Songs for Drella". Also how about;
Cobblestone Runway - Ron Sexsmith
Digital Ash in a Digital Urn - Bright Eyes
Can we have an "Album of the Day" for those of us who mostly listen again?
Pete
My album is Transvision Vamp - Pop Art.
Songs
Psychosonic Cindy
Revolution Baby
Tell That Girl To Shut Up
Having had a chance to peruse the old collection may I add;
Biff Bang Pow - Love Is Forever
Blake Babies - Sunburn
Catherine Wheel - Chrome
Cranes - Wings of Joy
Crime & The City Solution - Shine
Danielle Dax - Inky Bloaters
Ellen Foley - Nightout
Madder Rose - Bring It Down
Medicine - Shot Forth Self Living
Modern English - After The Snow
Pale Saints - Slow Buildings
The Slits - Cut
Wolfgang Press - The Burden of Mules
Ta
How's about:
"Because You're Frightened", "Philadelphia" and "Sweetheart Contract" from Magazine's "The Correct Use Of Soap".
Make a change from "Thank you..." and "Floorboards...".
To be honest, anything off this album would do.

House of Love - the debut album on Creation records. Please play
1) Love in a Car
2) Man to Child
I'll let you choose between Christine and Hope or any other track on this masterpiece.
Lets have "Music from The Body" -Ron Geesin & Roger Waters.
Tracks: obviously, "Mrs Throat Goes Walking" and "More Than Seven Dwarves in Penis Land".
They both fill a dancefloor.

Red Crayola - "God bless the red Crayola and all who sail in her" (1968)
(an album so far ahead of its time, not only preempting punk but post punk!)
Empire - Expensive sound (1981)
(mark & bob left Generation x in 1980 and made this classic lp that influenced the entire washington DC punk scene..you can blatantly hear where Embrace/Fugazi/Rites of Spring got their sound even rollins/mckaye admit it)

*Perfect from Now On by Built to Spill: Stop the Show, Made Up Dreams, Kicked It In the Sun
*Everclear by American Music Club: Jesus' Hands, Ex-Girlfriend, Sick of Food
*Beyond the Sun by Billy Mackenzie: Blue It Is, Sour Jewel, And This She Knows
I would recommend:
Vetiver - to find me gone
The Poems - Young America
The Lemonheads - Car Button Cloth
Has this idea been shelved?
Not shelved. Just not started yet. My only worry was the delicate balance of the show but I guess we should get on with it and see.
After Easter I reckon
