Hello there,
See that discussion title? That one up there is an indication that one of my all time broadcasting ambitions is about to be realised. There are others still unfulfilled (taking a long-term part as a pigman in the Archers; reading the shipping forecast, commentating on Tottenham's 8-0 over (relegated) Arsenal to clinch the quadruple; playing something by Chron-Gen) but they will have to wait.
Next Monday I will be one of the competitors on Ken Bruce's Celebrity Popmaster. On that Radio 2.
Don't ask who the other contestant is.
Okay it's Chris Hawkins but never mind that. And given our two names you can also see they are stretching the "celebrity" part somewhat but no matter. In order to limber up I need 6music listeners to regularly fire pop trivia questions in my direction. You can do that here on the message board or by e-mail or text message to the show.
I promise not to look the answers up on the internet.
Or to ask Andrew Collins.
So, if it's not too much bother hit me with the questions man. Don't worry if they're easy, it's all good sparring.
Here's one - What was Chron Gen's debut album called.
Now then... er.
Gidx
Alright then Gideon, you asked for it...name three people who were in T Rex and then died before their?
Where does Julianne Reagan (from All About Eve) come from?
Can you name four or more of the guitarists who have been in Siouxise and the Banshees?
What was the first record played on Radio 1?
What was the last record played on ToTP?
Who was the first presenter of The Old Grey Whistle Test?
Name the colour of the door made famous by Tom Jones and Shakin' Stevens
Name 5 (there at least 20) very famous popular entertainers hailing from New Jersey
which band, from the north east of the uk, covered Kate Bush / Wuthering Heights.
i'm sure i'll come up with something more obscure later...
Not bad -
Slippy Hips (or something like that) by Shakira was the last record on ToTP
Richard Williams (now the sports journalist at the Guardian) was the first presenter of the OGWT
You were on the right lines with trotting out E Street members but you could also have had Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith, Jon Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston, Paul Simon, Dionne Warwick and Abbott and Elvis Costello.
Guys, I think we're all being a bit to "muso" for Radio 2. You've got to consider their listenership and that most of the audience probably think that Phil Collins is a bit of a maverick.
Therefore, may I suggest that we "quiz his ass" with more pop-orientated questions. On that theme;
"What was the name of Kagagoogoo's debut album, and for a bonus point, who produced thier debut single?" [said in a gentle Scottish lilt]
Dear Gideon,
I eagerly anticipate your dulcet tones fulfilling your first 2 unfulfilled ambitions (what accent would you employ as pigman, and would it involve illicit liaisons?) but you can save the 3rd for your dreams cos it ain't going to happen.
Kind Regards,
An Arsenal Supporter.
PS good luck with your pop quiz.
Well done Gideon, all correct on the Banshees front, Julianne Reagan is from Coventry and you could have had Steve Currie (bassist in T Rex who died in a car crash as well) or even Mickey Finn who died in 2003.
New questions: In which county was the cover of Echo and the Bunnymen's album Ocean Rain taken?
Name any two bands that were part of the lion rock scene.
Oh, alright then I'll let you have the answers to my ever-so-tricky questions.
Their debut album was called "White Feathers" and their debut single, ("Too Shy" since you ask), was produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran "fame".
In truth, your answers were both pretty close with "Don't know" to the first question, followed by a respectable guess of "Don't know" to the bonus question.
If all else fails Gid, just ask "Is it David Gedge?" in response to each question. The law of averages states that you'll be right at least once... probably.

I was listening to your show yesterday and heard you mention that you would be on PopMaster. Then I heard Chris Hawkins mention it shortly after his show started and he also mentioned you. So, I listened this morning to Ken Bruce, but Boys 2 Men were featured on Celebrity PopMaster. I really like Ken Bruce's show for the mornings now, so I am switching off to listen to him instead of George Lamb. I don't listen to 6 Music as much now, but I enjoy your show in the evenings now and also listen to Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone and Guy Garvey's Finest Hour.I think what won me over is Ken Bruce playing, "Laughter in the Rain," by Neil Sedaka. I remember that song when it was in the charts!! I got a few of the questions right on PopMaster that Boys 2 Men got wrong as well.Nice one Gid!! I miss your morning show, but looking on the bright side, at least you are still there for us before bedtime and we still love your show. What would Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 6 Music be like without you?! There is always Ken Bruce in the morning. George Lamb is a bit loud for the mornings, I get up close to 5 A.M. Eastern Time (NYC time zone) and my PC speakers are faulty now, they are either barely audible sound or way too loud. My 14 year old - always - grumpy - in - the - morning - daughter doesn't like anything in the morning, but George Lamb probably gets more on her nerves than Ken Bruce!I'm a duffer in my own way (Laughter in the Rain by Neil Sedaka)! Nice one Gid!! >;}))))Cindy Gomez in [Personal details removed by Moderator]Michigan
Do you know the way to San Jose?
Why do fools fall in love?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Are you lonesome tonight?
Where have all the flowers gone?
What's new pussycat?
Therapy?
Not sure I've got the hang of this pop quiz thing.
Talk about Gideon's show and Freak Zone on the 6 Music Message boards.
