Well, if Judi says she's a true 'Devon Maid' then Calvie (as he likes to be known,) is a true 'mature' Devon Boy.

He's lived in the county all his life and has never ever had the thoughts of moving anywhere else.

"Why move away from the place where most Brits want to live? This is heaven," says Calvie.

Ian lives in the tiny hamlet of Spriddlestone in the South Hams with his very understanding wife Julie, two daughters, two dogs, two cats, one parrot and eight horses.

He's been involved in local sport all his life; playing soccer for over 20 years and then getting into the world of show jumping, competing all over the South West for 10 years.

Now he's causing havoc on local golf courses and also wants to master the high seas.

He began his broadcasting career back in 1975 with Plymouth Sound and was then the youngest presenter in the UK on independent commercial radio, staying until 1992.

He also presented the very popular Freezeframe programme for TSW for almost eight years.Μύ

After a break of almost 10 years, he was signed up again by South Hams Radio for their breakfast show, but due to his many other business commitments, Ian decided to call it a day in 2006 as he could no longer do the early morning 4.30 am out of bed routine.

Ian's love and knowledge of music is awesome and was responsible for educating many listeners in the South West to the great laid back sounds of West Coast USA and A.O.R (Adult Orientated Rock.)

The likes of Toto, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Starship, Kenny Loggins, Huey Lewis & the News, Poco and the Doobie Bros are just a few of the world class artist that got their first airplay with Ian.

Off the wall

Ian admits to liking all types of music from the 60's through to the current day, but is a very big fan of Michael Buble, James Morrisson, Jo Dee Messinna, Dixie Chicks, Peter Cincotti - and most of all The Eagles.

Many say he's 'off the wall,' with his wacky, witty, warm and friendly style.

No two shows are ever the same whilst he bounces off the mood and madness of his listeners.

You name it, he's up to it - and Sunday mornings may never be the same again - great music but who knows what he'll do in between!
