Women of the Sea

A variety of women from the South West are making their mark at sea - in professions normally associated with men. Read their stories in this special series of articles by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News Online.

From fishing on trawlers to surfing the waves in their 60s, South West women have strong links to the sea.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has compiled stories from six women on how the ocean around them affects their lives professionally and emotionally.

They include harrowing tales of crossing the Atlantic solo, to helping save lives and protecting sea life.

For some women it means being part of a male-dominated environment, either as a top surfing photographer or going aboard foreign ships as a counsellor for sailors.

Together their tales show women are at home at sea.
