Mouthy

Mouthy

Based on a combination of The Libertines and the theatrics of Berlin circa 1920s, Mouthy are going for a fun and eclectic sound.

We interview Drew Lovell, lead singer of Mouthy.

Q: What's the history of the band?
A: The band began in my head roughly two years ago and is now coming to fruition thanks to dedication and obsession!

Q: What's the name of your band and why is it called that?
A: The band's name is Mouthy, I decided on that because we need to be heard! We are on our knees for your ears!

Q: Which three words best describe your music.
A: Fairground, Cabaret, Real.

Q: What's the name of the track you've chosen to demo?
A: "Dress Rehearsal" is the title of our track. It's all about having a good time, all the time. Captures the swashbuckling romanticism of the Mouthy way.

We were really happy lately when it was picked as one of the unofficial England anthems by England FC for the World Cup just gone!

Q: Who's who in the band?
A: My name is Drew Lovell, I'm 20 and from Modbury. I'm the singer and the lead guitarist. Jay Holt is our other guitarist and Alex Pitcher, 17, is our drummer. We're also currently looking for more band members!

Q: What has been your most memorable gig and why?
A: Although we've only got three members at the moment we have played a few gigs already. It's great, each time we've almost caused a riot.

Q: What musical influences do you have?
A: The Libertines, The Strokes, The Clash, The Jam, Francis Dunnery and T-Rex. We're also influenced by the theatrics of Berlin, circa the 1920s.

Q: Who would be the three guests at a Mouthy dinner party?
A: Pete Doherty, Bill Hicks and Ricky Gervais.

Q: Complete this sentence, "When we become famous..."
A: ...We will revolutionise the music scene.

Q: What are the highs and lows of living where you do?
A: Well, we're based in Modbury, and it's a great atmosphere to write music in. The music scene needs our big kick though!

Q: Finally your big chance to sell yourself!
A: The scene at the moment is based on being real, we're the next step in this. We keep it real but also with a hint of theatrics, we are the spark and we are swashbuckling romanticism!
