Â鶹ԼÅÄ end cards are designed to be consistent across Â鶹ԼÅÄ programming and to demonstrate how our content reflects and represents audiences in all parts of the UK.

Please ensure the guidance on this page is read in full and the edit suite are provided with the correct assets and information.

End cards should be created in reference to the requirements outlined in the commissioning specification.

The end card requirements should be discussed and approved with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ commissioning editor before programme delivery.

Programme end cards are made up of the following components:

1. Production company logos
2. Â鶹ԼÅÄ and other broadcaster, platform or organisation logos: ie Â鶹ԼÅÄ Network, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Nations, the Open University, PBS etc
3. albert certification logo where achieved
4. Copyright information
5. Location signifier map

There is the option of using an alternative language for nations only commissions (for example, Welsh, Gaelic etc.

Information for production companies

Before creating an end card please consider the following and ensure the edit suite creating the end card are supplied with the correct information and assets:

• Production company logo/s and the order they should appear from left to right
• Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo (Network or Nation)
• Text credits or logos of any other broadcasters, platforms or organisation to appear as specified in the programme production agreement.
• Wording associated with logos such as ‘in association with’ as specified in the commissioning specification
• Copyright information
• Correct location to specify on the location signifier map. Always confirm which location to use with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ commissioning editor before supplying the information to the edit suite

(Be aware that fully animated CBeebies programmes have alternative end card specifications.)

End card duration

The end cards must be three seconds long followed by a five second hold. The five second hold is not used on iPlayer but may be used for timekeeping flexibility for broadcast. The templates incorporate the five second hold, so the delivered end card will be eight seconds long.

Production company logos

Production company logos appearing on end cards must not be animated (with the exception of CBeebies fully animated programmes).

The standard end card template allows for a single production company logo, or two production company logos next to each other. A third production company name can be included in text form. The lead producer should appear first (on the left).

The requirements for production company logos and associated text are outlined in the programme production agreement.

Please consider the format of the production company logo(s) as the end cards have a black background.

Â鶹ԼÅÄ and other broadcaster, platform or organisation logos

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo and, where agreed, the logos of any other broadcaster, platform or organisations appear below the production company logo/s. The standard end card templates allow for up to three logos including the Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo. When multiple logos are included the Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo should appear on the left.

These logo requirements and associated text are outlined in the programme production agreement.

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Logo

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo will always appear in this space.

Only one Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo can be included and must be white.

Where the programme was commissioned solely by Â鶹ԼÅÄ Network or is a co-commission between Â鶹ԼÅÄ Network and a Â鶹ԼÅÄ Nation, the standard Â鶹ԼÅÄ masterbrand logo must be used.

If the programme was commissioned solely by a Â鶹ԼÅÄ Nation, such as Â鶹ԼÅÄ Alba, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Cymru Wales, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Gaeilge, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Northern Ireland or Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ logo for the relevant nation should be used.

Other broadcasters, platforms or organisations:

The standard end card template can also include up to two additional logos alongside the Â鶹ԼÅÄ for broadcasters, platforms or organisations taking rights in the programme in another territory, such as Discovery or PBS. Note these can be referred to as co-producers but should not be confused with the production company logos and their requirements or positioning as detailed above.

This should be discussed as part of the commissioning process. For queries please check with the business affairs team and commissioning editor.

As a general rule:

• For co-producers investing for rights in another territory a significant indicative contribution of at least 25% of the production budget is required for an end card logo credit.
• For co-producers investing for rights in another territory a significant indicative contribution of more than 15% of the production budget is required to receive a text credit on the penultimate card.

Accompanying text wording:

Text accompanying the logos/credits will be agreed in the commissioning specification. In most cases:

• ‘In association with’ may be appropriate to use for those with a significant role in the production, provided it is agreed up front with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ
• ‘Co-production with’ may be appropriate to use for those with a genuine editorial input and/or significant investment into the budget in return for rights, provided it is agreed up front with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ
• ‘and’ may be appropriate to use for those with genuine editorial input, with a significant investment into the budget in return for rights, where they are taking the same version as the Â鶹ԼÅÄ in their territory and it is agreed up front with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ

albert logo

Programmes entitled to display the albert logo must display the static logo as part of the end-card design. The albert logo must appear at the bottom left of the 16:9 caption safe area and must not be more than 150% of the height of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ blocks. Find out more about albert certification.

Location signifier map

The location signifier is a map of the UK with an animated pin showing the location/s where a significant amount of filming took place. It’s intended to ensure our audiences can easily recognise when programmes have been made in their area, helping them feel closer to our content.

All end cards should contain a location signifier map (apart from fully animated CBeebies productions).

Always confirm the location/s to be used with the commissioning editor in advance.

When choosing locations be as specific as possible and chose to name a town or city rather than a region or UK Nation where possible.

Locations are split into categories:

• Specific towns or cities such as Birmingham or Ayr
• Areas such as Tyne and Wear, East Lothian or Caerphilly
• Regions and counties such as the North East or West Midlands
• UK Nations ie England or Northern Ireland
• Filmed internationally: Map is replaced by an animated pin with the text ‘Filmed in the UK and internationally’ or ‘Filmed internationally’.

Please be aware of any legal considerations or editorial sensitivities which mean the use of filming location is inappropriate such as where vulnerable contributors have been featured in the programme or undercover filming has taken place. In this case you can be less specific by choosing to show an area instead of the specific town or city in the location signifier. In these cases please consult with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ commissioning editor before creating the end card.

For those creating end cards on Adobe Premiere

• Location signifiers can show one or two locations, ie one or two cities, one area, one or two UK nations, or text to indicate if the programme was filmed internationally, or in the UK and internationally.
• If more filming was done in one location over another, generally use the name of the location where most filming took place first.
• For end cards created on Premiere this information is added using the ‘D: International Marker Locator Kind’ tab. This tab allows for additional options, but they should not be used unless specifically contracted.

For those creating end cards on other software

• Location signifiers can show one location: ie one town or city, one area, one or two UK nations, or text to indicate the programme was filmed internationally, or in the UK and internationally.

CBeebies fully animated content

This information is for fully animated CBeebies programmes only. All CÂ鶹ԼÅÄ programmes and all CBeebies non-animated programmes should follow the main guidelines outlined on this page.

For fully animated CBeebies productions only:

• backgrounds other than the standard solid black can be used on the end card
• no map or location text is required

Strands and non-standard end cards

Where agreed in advance, and in very limited circumstances where there are a significant number of co-producers, co-funders etc, the production and the Â鶹ԼÅÄ may need to produce a non-standard end card, as the number of companies cannot fit into the standard templates. Templates and technical specifications

Â鶹ԼÅÄ end cards are designed primarily for creation in Adobe Premiere. There is a separate graphics package and guidance for those using alternative software, but we recommend Premiere be used where possible.

• Ensure you download the correct end card graphics package (below) for the editing software you are using.
• Those using alternative software packages only need to download the location map they require, not the entire folder.
• Ensure you are following all guidelines by reading the information provided on this page and within the edit package in full before starting the project.
