The Newport artist fought off competition from rockers Skindred and singer Gruff Rhys, among others, to win the £10,000 award for his album Blood, Sweat and Fears.
The ceremony - the 14th annual awards - was held on 8 October at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre and were hosted by Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 1's Sian Eleri.
Receiving the award Lemfreck thanked his parents, saying: "As a young black kid growing up, they constantly told me I could do anything and be anything."
