How did you get into radio?

Hospital radio in Lancaster – Ethna Campbell, Jim Reeves and all the classics. Then I worked for a station in Blackpool on my day off from the Morecambe Visitor newspaper interviewing polticians in the days when Labour and the TUC came to town before landing my first paid job when a new radio station opened inΜύ Lancaster.

Where was your first broadcast?

Radio Five, when a wallaby went missing in Morecambe. I was hooked, sadly the wallaby was never found…

Where else have you worked?

North west, south east and London with stints in the US.

What other jobs have you done besides broadcasting?

I used to work in the nuclear power industry and got into print journalism when I realised there was a job where I could get paid for talking to people.Μύ

How long have you worked at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cumbria and why do you like it?

I’ve just celebrated my first anniversary here. I think the daily commute from south to north Cumbria each day is part of the appeal – a guaranteed seat and a view to die for! The stories are varied and it’s a great team here.

Favourite broadcasting memory?

I’m a huge Eric Morecambe fan so the programme I made with his widow Joan at the time the new statue was unveiled in Morecambe wasΜύgreat fun. Almost interviewing the Queen by accident on the day she unveiled it was a classic moment. Reporting from the middle of the Nevada desert was another good memory.

What are your local connections (if any)?

I was born in Cheshire but grew up in Morecambe with frequent forays across the border to Cumbria.

What would you be if you weren’t a radio presenter?

Poorer ?? Annoying people trying to be a presenter.Μύ

What would listeners be surprised to learn about you?

They’d be surprised that I’m younger than I sound.

What do you do when you’re not broadcasting?

I have two children under eight – need I say more ? I walk, swim and ride a lot and love loud music (sometimes at the same time..)Μύ

Describe the programme you present

It’s a mix of news and music, a look at the arts scene in the county and a few surprises too. We often start with an empty programme but always end up trying to fit it all in.
