Carlisle Live 2007

Sunday 12th August saw a host of pop stars take to the stage in Carlisle's Bitts Park. Blast Arts Reporter, Lisa-Marie Ellwood popped down to the party in the hope to exchange numbers with Westlife and throw some shapes during Chico Time!

The line-up this year was one of the best the summer concerts Bitts Park has ever seen, with the main headliners of the show being none other than Westlife! The other stars performing on stage were predominantly the produce of televised talent contests, however this was more than fitting with the Stobart Factor singing competition taking the central slot in the day's running order.

Gates open

Gates opened for this, the biggest event taking place in Carlisle this summer at 12.30 and the first batch of the estimated 20,000 audience members entered the park and made their way down towards the stage.

The main stars in the line-up for the day were Chico, opera singer Paul Potts, Shayne Ward, ex-sugababe Mutya Buena and headliners Westlife.

The entertainment itself kicked off at 14.30 with an array of live bands, Warrington based dance troupe IndepenDance and America's own Barney the Dinosaur entertaining the audience and warming them up for the big stars.

Much as I thought Barney was an excellent performer and fantastic at entertaining the children,Μύ I took this opportunity to wander in to the grounds to have a chat with the fans and take a few snaps on my trusty camera.

There was a variety of age groups making up the audience on the day from children and teenagers to parents and grandparents.

Unsurprisingly the act most audience members were looking forward to seeing were those charming Irish boys, Westlife, who have been at the forefront of British pop now for nearly ten years.

Fans travelled from as far as Germany to see their favourite four entertain for just 50 minutes on stage.

However it was ex-sugababe Mutya Buena that seemed to be the most popular performer with the younger generation of fans.

It's Chico Time!

Chico Time commenced at 16.15 at Carlisle Live on Sunday.

Ticket holders for the event had long been debating how Chico was going to entertain the crowd for 30 minutes with his single It's Chico Time.

In truth the cheeky performer was only billed to perform for 20 minutes and was quite possibly the most entertaining act of the day.

Chico shows off his impressive bodywork

He performed his number one single and a variety of other top songs including Livin La Vida Loca, D.I.S.C.O and James Brown's hit, I Feel Good.

Chico also took the opportunity to plug his new single, Curvy Cola Bottle Body Baby, which is scheduled for release this October and has a distinct similarity in sound to Tom Jones' She's A Lady.

Regardless of the scepticism about him performing I don't think anybody could deny that he was a definite crowd pleaser - shaking his behind, taking his top off, pec dancing, dowsing himself and the crowd in water, running in to the audience, pelvic thrusting - Ok perhaps I was looking a bit too closely but all in all he put on a good show and hand on heart I actually thought his voice was quite good too.

Chico continued entertaining the audience throughout the night as a co-host for the event alongside dancer Brendan Cole.
