A diary with a pair of glasses

Blast diary - part one - 26/07/07

Join Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cumbria's Blast Reporter, Lisa-Marie Ellwood on an adventure of fun and discovery as she explores the entertainment on offer in Cumbria this summer.

Hey!!!!

Well as you may have gathered already, I am on an eight week placement this summer at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cumbria.

My placement is as a Blast Arts Reporter which basically means I have to go round and sample all the fun and entertainment taking place in Cumbria and report back to you guys all about it - hey, it's a hard job but somebody's got to do it!

The story so far

After learning I had been successful in my interview for the placement I was told I would be sent on a training weekend to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Sonar Centre in Bristol.

"How exciting!!! Me - all official and professional, working for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ!"

How exciting!!! Me - all official and professional, working for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ! Well this is how I felt until I realised that in order to arrive on time for the first day of training I had to get up at half four in the morning! I am not a morning person. Ever.

After forgetting my glasses and having my mum revert to her role of Wonder Woman to rush home and back to meet me with them at the train door just one minute before we were due to depart - nice work mum - my Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ mentor Nell Gordon and I had a little chat and prepared ourselves for the day ahead by erm falling asleep.

Training

There are three main areas of training that the Blast Reporters have to undergo before they can be let loose to work for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. These are interviewing skills, health and safety, and writing and production skills for the web.

All the workshops were extremely informative and really good fun. I had a great weekend and met many lovely blast reporters from different regions of the UK.

We are all looking to keep in touch and support each other through our placements this summer.

My first assignment

This Friday I am due to set off on my first adventure as a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ reporter to the Maryport Blues Festival.Μύ

Van Morrison

Van Morrison

Headlining this weekend is the man, Van Morisson, performing with his 11 piece band on Saturday night, which will be very exciting.

I'm looking to have lots of fun at Maryport this weekend and hope to see and speak to many of you there.

You won't miss me, I'll be the one in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast T-Shirt to prove to everyone that I am officially a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ reporter! Whoop whoop!
