KyleAn energy surge scrambles Brody's brain, until he's not sure if he's Larek or not. He takes hostages.

Written by Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner
Directed by Patrick Norris

All hostage episodes of any series suck. The only exceptions, ever, were one or two episodes of Due South. Guess what? This isn't an episode of Due South.

I'm sure producers decide to do hostage episodes because their single setting and limited cast makes them cheap. The problem is, they're very limiting, and you need good characters in order to carry it off.

Alas, this episode just highlights the erratic characterisation that has been wobbling away in Roswell this season. Brody is a great character who has been dreafully written, but usually saved by a great performance. Even Desmond Askew can't save this episode, though.

What makes it even more painful to watch is that even the production team know it sucks. It was made to be shown much earlier in the season, but held over till the last possible moment.

Unfortunately, this means that it gets in the way of the fascinating story arc that has been developing over the last few weeks. So it's not just bad, it's irritating.
